Shiny object syndrome is real, how do you beat it?
Wanted to open this up for discussion because I think a lot of us deal with this. I think it is beneficial to ask all the questions and get different perspectives. I have $90K in fire mitigation work on the books right now. Forty thousand dollars of that is a single job. These are the jobs I want. This is the work I’m getting dialed in on. This is where my margins are, where my production is improving, and where I’m building a real reputation. And I’m also showing up this week to knock out a $3,000, $8,000 and $10,000 brush clearing job. Now, that’s real good money. I’m not saying it isn’t. But I said yes to it before I understood what it was actually costing me. It’s not just three grand. It’s a day of prep. It’s a day(s) of execution. It’s mental bandwidth. It’s time I’m not spending getting better at the thing that’s producing $40K jobs. I didn’t turn these smaller jobs down when they came in because revenue is revenue and I’m early enough in this business that saying no felt stupid. But now I’m sitting here with obligations on the calendar that are pulling me away from the work that actually moves the needle. Riches in the niches is something I believe in deeply. But believing it and actually operating that way are two different things. Right now I’m not fully doing the second one. So here’s the honest question I’m asking myself and I’ll throw it to the group: At what point do you get disciplined enough to say no to good money in order to protect your focus on great money? And for those of you who have made that call, what did that actually look like? Did you set a job minimum? Did you just start quoting the small stuff high enough that it either went away or became worth it? How did you draw the line? I appreciate yall in advance, work hard and say your prayers!

Hi @Jt Mahon you’re in a great spot my man. Yes, you’re making good money, but time is valuable. Here’s some simple math for perspective: 5 jobs / week @ $3k = $15k per week 3 jobs / week @ $5k = $15k per week. Same income. Less time, wear and tear, cost of services, etc. If you can constantly fill your books with higher paying jobs, then that’s your sign to go for it!
Rental equipment
Does anyone know of any resources available to help us find rental equipment?

@Steve Velasquez hey Steve, I’m just starting out so I haven’t gotten equipment yet, but I’m finding that they are rented out separately.

Direction
Hello fellow ops, I am in the true beginning stages of starting a business in this field but do have a CDL, truck, and trailer. I am stuck on what to start with whether that be renting equipment fully for now or buying a head and renting just the skid steer or buying a full set up. Any advice or experience from you guys is much appreciated!

Hi @Aaron Alderman personally, I’m going to rent first. Check out Austin’s videos on “shiny object syndrome”, it helps bring clarity on what you need to start to go out there and get jobs 😁
From “Where Do I Get Leads?” To $21,500 In Work In 30 Days
About a month ago, Jeff and his wife were golfing and he asked me a simple question: “Where the heck do I get these leads?” At that point, his land clearing business wasn’t doing much. No consistent revenue. No real lead engine. Just a guy with a machine who wanted to work. He joined Accelerator and starting showing up to the OPS Training calls on Saturday monrings He launched one simple Facebook ad, and started following the playbook. Here’s what’s happened in less than 30 days after joining: Current revenue booked: $21,500 Cash collected so far: $10,450 Backlog value: $13,500 New leads: 6 Quotes / site visits done: 6 Jobs sold: 4 (75% close rate) None of this is magic. Here’s what actually changed. He filmed the before/after Facebook ad and launched it. Not a cinematic masterpiece. Just a clear “before,” a clean “after,” and a simple offer for land clearing. He called every lead fast. 6 leads came in. He called all 6. No “I’ll call them tomorrow.” No letting them sit over the weekend. He booked fast site visits. 6 leads → 6 site visits on the calendar. He controlled what he could control: calls and appointments. You don’t need perfect sales training to win when you stack the basics like this. You need: A proven ad that actually gets land clearing leads. A rule for yourself: call leads fast and book the visit. A habit of showing up looking like the person who should get paid. Jeff did that for one month and turned “where do I get leads?” into $21,500 in work and a $13,500 backlog going into the busiest part of the season. If you already have a mulcher and you’re serious about growing this year, you’ve got two options: 1. keep trying to figure it out alone 2. Copy the proven playbook that Jeff used If you want our team to help you set up the ad and build the follow-up and scorecard so you’re not guessing, click here and book an OPS Game Plan call. We’ll map out your goals and see if what we have inside Accelerator is a good fit for you this season.

This is awesome to hear @Jeff Shelton ! Do you mind sharing how much you spent on ads to get those leads?
$25k in Jobs Done, Another $23k on the Books
Starting this winter, I spent $1700 in boosted posts and also word of mouth got me over $25k done from the winter, and now after posting a video since last Friday and more references, I have another $23k on the books with more estimates to do this week. Here's the video that I just posted. I mumbled a bit and did the video sideways, so speaking better and holding the phone upright would make it better.
