Buying VSX?
I have been using Akg K612 Pro for a long time as my main headphone. They are fine in many situations but I always had problems when I have to do mixing and mastering with them. This year I plan to upgrade them. Vsx is catching my attention. I don't know how their headphones sound I would like a open back headphones for home studio though (I think they made a new headphone called Immersion One and it is Planar Magnetic). So I am looking at VSx headphones and also Hifiman Planar Magnetic ones (like anando Nano or something similar). I would love all opinions on this subjects. Btw, I tried Sennheiser Hd 650 . It sounds so similar to my focals Solo be monitors but Low end didn't make me happy on those headphones. Also I didn't invest money on headphone amps, I am using Rme headphone amps on babyface pro fs. I would love all suggestions doesn't make me go bankrupt. Also I would love to hear expensive solutions if it is end game for me?

VSX are great bang for the buck, and they save me a lot of time bouncing and referencing.
Favourite Piano VSTs?
Hi Everyone and Happy New Year! Just wondering what some of your favourite realistic-sounding Piano VSTs are? My go-to in trailer tracks is the Felt Piano from Spitfire's Olafur Arnalds Toolkit, but I need something a little less soft for a project I'm working on. I've been using Addictive Keys from XLN Audio for years in personal projects, but I'm not sure it quite has the realism I want/need for this professional project. Though interested if anyone disagrees! Let me know your thoughts! I'm hoping not to break the bank on another piano, but I'd love to have something that sounds super realistic to slot into my wider instrument collection (Nucleus, Metropolis Ark, Damage 2, Gravity etc) Thanks all!

I always find myself going back to the East West Steinway layered with Una Corda from Native Instruments.
What is your favorite compressor plugin and why?
Okay, let's talk some gear. I am dying to know what is your favorite compressor plugin and why. No matter if it's single or multiband, per instrument, groups or busses, channel or mastering. Let's go and talk some gear!

It really depends on what the sound needs. For subtle glue, I love the VBC Rack. Some other favorites on individual instruments are the Distressor and Custom Opto. Mastering and piano, Shadow Hills. Vocals are always a combination but I’ll go with LA-2A for the favorite. On live instruments, I’ll generally utilize the built in 1176 on my 4-710d preamp.

Bang for the buck, they are great! It definitely helps having multiple references without bouncing and checking elsewhere. My Focal Clear Pros still have more depth, crisper highs, and beefier lows, but the price tag is drastically different. I haven’t heard other headphones in that price range that I would pick over VSX.

@Florian Michaelis I’ve heard that as well, but I think they fixed that. They are great about replacing them if that happens though.
A new social network - new opportunities!
Hey guys, just quickly wanted to talk about Bluesky. There is a new social network that is currently trending like crazy and reached 15 million users just two days ago. Now, you may think that too many social networks aren't a good idea to be and that you are cool with just one or two of them already, ... and generally I agree, the less distractions, the better it is. However, keep in mind that social networks can always be split up into three simple categories: - 9:16 content - 16:9 content - text That's it. If you got a piece of 9:16 content below 60 secs, you can share it as: - Instagram Reel - YouTube Shorts video - TikTok post If you got a piece of text, you can share that to: - Facebook - Twitter/X - Bluesky - Threads - LinkedIn You get the idea. So whenever you have a piece of content, make sure to share it as on many platforms as possible because every little post is a new opportunity leading to potential new gigs, collaborations or business relationships. Now, we got Bluesky and it is basically, let's say, a welcome alternative to the Twitter, that, sadly, isn't Twitter anymore. Why should it matter in general? A fresh social network is a perfect platform to build a huge follower base, because the algorithms are new, meaning your content will automatically reach more and new people. During my time studying at the LACM in Los Angeles, one of my teachers, Linda Taylor said the following: Whenever you send out CDs (yes, back then this was the application medium of choice), put as much information about yourself as possible: Your name, phone number, pager, email address, postal address, everything! Now, today, 25 years later, the same applies to social networks. Be on as many as possible. The developer, the company, the client, the customer you may miss on Facebook or Instagram, may be around and open to your content on LinkedIn or TikTok ... and now, Bluesky :) Feel free to share your Bluesky Accounts here 👇 Here is mine: alexpfeffer.bsky.social
