Best way to create these flowing bands in Plasticity?
Hi everyone! 👋 I'm still fairly new to Plasticity and I'm currently working on my first bigger project: an abstract sculpture that I want to 3D print as a gift for a physiotherapy practice. I'm struggling a bit with the flowing bands that wrap around the central figure. I want them to look organic and smooth, with changing curves and distances from the body – not just like simple helices around a cylinder. I've attached my reference image. How would you approach creating these bands in Plasticity? Would you build them from 3D curves and surfaces, use lofts/xNURBS, create a larger surface and cut the bands out of it, or use a completely different workflow? I'm not looking for someone to model it for me – I'd just really appreciate some pointers on the best approach and which Plasticity tools I should focus on. Thanks for any tips! 🙂

Quickly: Start with spirals with one revolution or less, then rebuild several times until you get the right shape, modifying the curve accordingly. Finally, use a pipe with the appropriate diameter and number of vertices – apply pipe scaling. The most time-consuming part is the profiles for the curves.

For your application, you can use the new Plasticity feature "Export hidden line." This allows you to create any projection of a given model. Available by pressing the F key. File saved as SVG.

I use XP Pen tablet Deco Pro and works well with Plasticity. I use MOI3D profile in preferences.
