Hi Guys, I'm beginning to test a few demo pieces and wanted to get some feedback. Earl said that the first clip in your samples should be a strong one, with a little punch. The next one softer, then softer and back up. I had an idea for this one as my first heavy hitter but I'm curious if it's way too much. First off, I know it's longer than 10 seconds, but give it a listen and tell me if it's strong enough or am I completely missing the goal by not using my normal speaking voice. At any rate, I'd be interested in other thoughts.

What did you read today? No! Not just about voice over. But for your personal growth? Me? I started reading: The obstacle is the way by Ryan Holiday. What did you listen to today? Did you find the answer to a problem today? I watched a video on β€œwhy you hate the sound of your voice.” Followed by Bill DeWees β€œ3 tips on making your voice sound better.” And Earl Hall’s, β€œHow to read a script.” And did you practice using your DAW? Remember if you aren’t working on you. The person who gets that job you wanted so bad. Might have work on themselves.

Hi Bill. Thanks for the push. This week for me Earls' book, "Becoming A Voice Actor". I'm also following up on past on past connections that have me on their roster. Lastly, two auditions to work on today.

Sound test coming soon πŸš€

For a voice actor, the interval time is everything! That is...whatever you can do to set up your audio correctly on the front end, will definitely save you time on the back end. For example: In the process of taking more time than usual to process my audio for auditions, I discovered my compression settings were way off. Not sure how that happened! I thought my settings were saved. This was going on for months! It's just a reminder that as a voice actor, you can't necessarily set it and forget it regarding your audio. More time saved means more time for auditions. Or eating seafood boil! Thanks Michael!

I have a small business of my own where I do a lot of videography for weddings and other events. I have bought everything from voiceover work to logos on Fiverr. Those that use Fiverr when someone messages you about a job and you make them a custom offer. Would you then message then 2 minutes later with another offer for needing more money. I am trying to figure out if this is normal on Fiverr. This makes me feel that it’s almost scam like. I offer you let’s say 20 bucks to get you in the door and then do the bait and switch to get more out of you. Any thoughts on this?

I don't have much to contribute about this platform. I've been on Fiverr over 1 year so far. I've had three offers. Two were scams and the other didn't follow through. I even gave up for a moment, I figured I needed to really go deeper than the surface perspective I gave it. I wouldn't message back to ask for more, especially when you already made an offer. Your integrity may go right out the window. Question though, did you find more info about the job that you didn't know before to prompt a higher price. The one thing though is this...As you set up your account the potential client should see all of your charges. In addition, if you set up your questionaire, the client should have a clear idea of what you require. Hope that helps. Perhaps someone else will chime in.

Yesterday I received and email from a client whom I had sent a audition to. The platform shows if they listened ( which they did) and if they like they can shortlist you ( which on the platform they DID NOT). After the cordial greetings they mentioned that they had selected me as 1 of the 5 finalist for the job ( electric truck manufacturers). Their question was that they were pressed to meet deadline and if I was selected for the job would I be able to provide a turnaround by the end ( end of day) this was at 3pm est and their end was 7pm est. My response was ABSOLUTELY ( yes actual response all caps) . At 4 pm o recieced a response that they were going in another direction, but the representative stated that I was his choice. Would I mind if they added me to there personal list of vo artists as to avoid the hassles of searching ? Again I responded yes and thanked them for just being considered Your customer service , wether you do or don't get that job can determine your jobs in the future , and establish your reputation Just my 2 cents

I really didn't figure it out at that time (much later), but being persistent has its reward. Yet confidence can turn to hubris if not careful.

2nd week in on the "Voiceover Domination" course, I had no idea how much I didn't know, and we're just getting started! I'm overwhelmed but getting "unstuck" in so many areas. Thank you for the outstanding guidance!

Punching fear in the face as someone would say. Thx Bill!

I was in a Goodwill Store the other day. I saw this drafting table and immediately started getting ideas. One idea was using this a sound booth setup on top of a desk. With the purchase of a sound blanket(s), it could actually work. If anyone is still looking to develope a space for recording, this is just one of many out of the box creations. I even saw a clothing rack that could be used for a sound booth for pennies on the dollar. Just some ideas for anybody!

One of my favorites is the PVC/ sound blanket design. That still may not work for some but it's another idea.

I use Audacity currently. My 2011 MacBook Pro is not able to run Audition.

Hi Earl There is one lesson that I"m locked out of (Lesson 1) to get beyond my current level of 3. How did you gain access to that very first lesson?

Ok. I must must be trippin', cause it's not showing under the classroom menu. I do have a question...I had an audition sent to me. It was 1500-2499 British Pound. 15 recording 1-2 min long. The customer wanted a buyout in perpetuity for (2450.00). I decided against it. Whats your take (or anyones take)?

Hey guys! What DAW do you use?

I like Audition, but I've been using Audacity for budget reasons.

I tried Friday to download Audition. I was unable. I need a newer version of my MacBook Pro. I'm hesitant to download an older version of Audition for fear of not having the latest features. I'll reach out to Au customer support.

Yesterday i revealed Voice Over Domination to everyone on the live AMA Zoom call. Today I am officially revealing it to our entire group. Monday I release it to the WORLD! There are limited spots available and 4 of those spots are already gone! Here is all the information πŸ”₯

I'll repost my comment from Earl's YouTube Channel. These are necessary tools for every voiceover artist in developing/executing their marketing strategy. The value in this course far surpasses anything being offered! This is what I need to assist in moving forward effectiveIy. I signed up and can't wait for this course to begin!

    @Maria Torres Let's do this...GADQ!

Ok thats a slight embellishment, but there's a point . So while watching @Penny Orton ⁣ speak 9f all the things to do for her tracks, and earl show how he has is workflow down to a process it go me thinking.... so my question goes like this 1 do you know what the term noise floor means. 2.How do you manage the noise in your recordings 3. What noise software do you use.. Let me know , and let's work on some solutions and practices.

Just made this this morning πŸ˜† This one of the ways I am starting to promote my gigs on fiverr on social media. Would you like help promoting your gigs on fiverr or Upwork?

I lot of great elements. I was drawn in to listen. I also know that this another feature skillset I will need to incorporate in order to have a greater marketing reach.

  • 1 like β€’ Feb 18

What other ways does one move up in the leader board? Trying to move beyond level 3. There's also one course that's locked. Could anyone advise? Thx.

#Your DAW I'm using Adobe Audition, it's a workhorse, you are literally able to do surgery on your audio. My favorite feature is using the multitrack and adding music to your voiced audio track. Thank you for the ducking tip, there's so much to learn about Adobe Audition it's definitely a keeper.

Those features offered with Audition are somethin' else.

#Live AMA Zoom Session 02.11.23 Some of us use Audacity because it's free. For the cost of Adobe Audition (about $20per month), you can get free music to add to your library for VO. There are some other perks with Audition as well. I'm not sure what the windows requirement is for Audition but for Macbook, Version 11 and up works with Audition. The value here is, that if you're going to pay for music, might as well use Audition for $20 anyway. The music is a plus.
