Joe ... thanks for asking! We get this question often at Buckler. Many RIAs use RIA Compliance Consulting firms. They come in different flavors... many consultants offer (for lack of a better term) "Standard Compliance" - these are new company filings, annual filings, governance work, fiduciary duty, disclosures, etc. It's what's typically thought of when you say "compliance." There's a new category that's formed and a spectrum of what firms offer in the way of "Cyber Compliance." Some consultants offer very little or nothing, others offer basic reviews of policies and at the other end of the spectrum, some firms partner with companies like Buckler to extend their Cyber Compliance offering. There's a significant range. Why the new category - because cybersecurity regulations picked up across multiple federal and state regulators. It's not easy for most firms to stay up-to-date, especially if they don't have a dedicated CISO or CCO on staff and an Operation person or Owner takes the designated role of CISO as required by law (happens all the time). There are now Cyber Compliance solutions (like Buckler) and Consulting Firms picking up on this trend - it's a logical extension of the compliance they do today. Buckler has clients directly working in Buckler (a Cybersecurity Program Management Solution) or their respective Compliance Firm or vCISO works in Buckler to manage if for them. Lots of options out there. This is why when people say "I have a Compliance Firm," there's always clarity needed as to what type of firm and services. They aren't always covered with strong Cybersecurity Compliance. If helpful for anyone out there.
