The Colours of Autumn
I painted this, in between doing other things, over Sunday and Monday. Trying for a looser style. Acrylic on canvas paper, 9.50” x 14”.

At the bottom of the garden
I painted this scene in acrylic, on a 20” x 16” canvas. I had to really think about the backlit overhanging branches. I have kept this painting.

My latest painting: any constructive criticisms?
Oil on canvas board, 12x10 inch. Yahhh, another new painting just after a week ! I am trying to be as consistent as possible. While painting this painting, I realised that during this 7 months of gap, my skills of proper colour and value perception has gone down quite a lot. I mean, I am still able to tell how to mix proper colours and values at different points and how to get those, but still for some reason, I was having difficulty doing so. For example, I know that the value and saturation gets lower the farther the mountains are, and also they should have a blueish tint. But when I was applying the colours , it always felt off. So I had to use a colour picker to check the colours of certains places from the reference photo. And it actually helped a lot. Anyways, is there anything I should have done better or tell me if I did anything wrong ? Any constructive criticisms are wholeheartedly welcome. Thank you ❤️.

Hi there, I’m not good at critiquing other people’s work, as each appears better than my own work but perhaps your values are too close together. Your darkest dark, just over the ridge of your lovely foreground, could possibly be darker and your snow lighter. Also, the temperature seems to be the same across the piece, warm. Maybe by cooling the mountains you could heighten interest! Just the thoughts of a well intentioned admirer of your work💕

As a self-taught artist, I feel I have come to a dead end and I’m trying to become less structured and far more impressionistic. But to succeed with impressionism, my painting skills and knowledge need to be enhanced. Sam’s work has that level of professionalism that I need to attain.
Cliffs of Moher
Something a little different - The Cliffs of Moher on the West coast of Ireland rising some 760 feet from the sea. This is from my own photo with a preliminary sketch made en plein air. I have decided to keep this painting - I love the water based on Indanthene blue, in turn mixed with Prussian blue, a touch of Cerulean and ultramarine blue and Titanium white - acrylics of course,
