Hey Artists A couple of weeks back, I did a painting critique with Rob, a member of Sam's Art School, for one of our monthly painting challenges: a gorgeous snowy scene I photographed years ago and am actually painting myself right now. His work was solid, but when we looked at it together, something was missing. The painting felt a bit flat, like it wasn't quite singing. So we did a simple experiment: we increased the contrast. I grabbed his painting, marked it up in Procreate, and recorded a full walkthrough showing exactly what changed and why. It's about 17 minutes, and I think you'll find it really helpful to see the principle in action. We pushed the values, made the lights lighter, and the darks darker.
