Rough cut - challenge
During our last online meeting I was challenged to create a video. So I did! 😎 This is not the video that I had in mind. But hey! I went down an AI rabbit hole. To find out why this video and the back-story you'll have to attend today's meeting. ************************************** This is my rough cut - if you have any suggestions or comments, come-on out to the online meeting.

Film Look Challenge Winner 🎬 Let’s Recreate It
Earlier this week, I posted three different film looks and asked you to vote. Film Look #3 (Sinners) won. So in this video, I walk through recreating that look step by step inside Resolve. We break it down the way it should be broken down: ✅ Match exposure and contrast first ✅ Analyze skin tones and background separation ✅ Use curves for hue control ✅ Add subtle glow ✅ Finish with film grain The goal wasn’t to perfectly copy it. The goal was to understand how to think through recreating a look. Now it’s your turn. 🏆 CHALLENGE: Download the reference still and practice clip from the classroom, or use your own footage, and recreate this look yourself. Post your result in the comments below this post by next Saturday. 👇 You can: ✅ Use the provided practice video clip ✅ Use the reference still only ✅ Or use your own clip entirely What matters is that you try to match the tonal balance, skin warmth, cool background, and overall contrast structure. This walkthrough video will also live in the classroom for archiving purposes, along with: ✅ The reference image ✅ The downloadable PowerGrade ✅ The practice clip Check it out in the classroom too. Let’s see what you come up with.

Work in Progress! I managed to put the first node! Contrast! What takes time, and it's with any new app, is to get familiarized with the tools, interface, I needed to go through the classroom video several times to see where to click and what to select! Its very clearly explained! I am getting familiarized with the tools and UI! Plus, my window of the video is so tiny! I had to figure out how to increase my staging area! So it's been a great way to familiarize oneself with Resolve! Glad you created this! @Andrew Farmer Thanks for this tutorial! Will post the final image once completed!

✨The New FujiFilm Film Stock LUT Pack Is Now Inside the Classroom
I just added the FujiFilm Film Stock LUT Pack to the Resolve School classroom. This pack includes 11 finishing LUTs inspired by classic Fuji film stocks and designed to emulate the feel of a film print. These are not corrective LUTs. They are meant to sit at the very end of your color pipeline, after exposure, white balance, and contrast are already dialed in. Think of them as the final layer that gives your footage cohesion, contrast discipline, and subtle film character. Fuji-inspired looks tend to lean slightly cleaner and more restrained compared to warmer print styles. You get controlled saturation, refined highlight roll-off, natural skin tones, and a consistent tonal response that feels intentional instead of overly processed. The goal is not heavy stylization. The goal is a finished image that feels cohesive and polished. HOW YOU CAN GET IT You have two options: 1. You can purchase the FujiFilm LUT pack individually inside the classroom if you want this specific look. 2. Or you can join the Premium Membership and get access to: - All LUT packs and presets - The full classroom - The 3-Hour Edit System - Live Calls and resources If you’re already building inside Resolve consistently, Premium usually makes more sense long term. If you grab the pack and use it on a project, drop a still frame or short clip in the comments. I’d love to see how you’re using it and what footage you’re applying it to. QUICK POLL Where are you at with LUTs?

📅 Feb 16th - MONDAY RESET: TRY ONE NEW THING
Editing can easily turn into “just get it done.” Another timeline. Another export. Another round of fixes. So here’s the nudge for this week: Try one new thing in Resolve. Not because you need it. Not because it’s efficient. Just because it’s interesting. Find a tutorial you’ve never tried. Test a feature you normally ignore. Experiment with an effect you’ve been curious about. Learning keeps editing from feeling mechanical. And sometimes the thing you try “just for fun” ends up becoming part of your real workflow later. COMMUNITY SHARE If you try something new this week, drop it below: • What tutorial did you follow? • What feature did you test? • What surprised you? Link it if you want. Let’s build a thread we can all pull ideas from. WINS FROM LAST WEEK @Benjamin Lanin built a custom arrow in Fusion after following a tutorial, even though he usually avoids Fusion because it can turn into a rabbit hole. @Neil Dasgupta committed to setting a clear editing goal for the next couple of months to stay accountable in his learning. Trying. Showing up. Taking one step forward. That’s real progress. THIS WEEK INSIDE RESOLVE SCHOOL Nothing heavy scheduled. No live calls. Later today, I’ll post a separate thread with three film frames you can vote on. I’ll recreate the winning look (color grade), record the process, and share the PowerGrade so you can experiment with it yourself. Keep an eye out for that post and cast your vote.

Yea! I have selected a couple of videos to edit, one of which nicely ties in with the poll you created!
🏆 FRIDAY WINS 👊
Before we talk about wins, quick permission slip: Not every week feels fast. Not every edit feels smooth. Not every timeline gets finished. Progress inside Resolve is often quieter than we expect. Now let’s capture what did move. What’s one win from this week? It can be small. • Opened Resolve even though you didn’t feel like it • Finished a rough cut • Tried the Structure Pass without jumping ahead • Cleaned up audio for the first time • Published something imperfect • Asked a question instead of staying stuck Small counts. If you want to go one level deeper: What felt easier this week than it did a month ago? Drop your win below. 👇 Doesn’t need to be polished.
