As we enter the final hours of our time here and as we all are better than when we arrived, I look forward to the future. We have gained tools that will allow all of us to enjoy success as we move onward. No matter where we go , regardless of the manner in which ( the who what when wheres and whys) we will always be here for each other and always share this bond . I personally look forward to the day I watch TV, the radio etc,,and hear each and everyone I've learned here with. I am always here and available for anyone who needs me Wether at the Facebook page, the new Saturday zoom or via email ( wellmoderatedvo@gmail.com) Grace and Peace to all...

I'm excited and yet saddened. This particular forum will be ending very soon. Call it the end of the beginning if you will. Quite a few things were shared between all of us. The main goal of course is conquering the things that hold us back and embracing the future with nervous excitement and expectation for what is to come. I appreciate having ya'll around and listening to the good, bad, ugly...but never quitting. It's all inspirational. I can't wait to see the progress we make together and individually. Thanks Earl, Mike, and ALL! GADQ

Totally agree
Today was the last AmA with Earl. Two things. One you will never really know how much you effect a person. Even when you tell them, Earl in the short time I've been with him and the group. I have done more in the short time I've been with him. There aren't enough words in the English language to express the thanks for helping me move forward with my career....Business as a voice over artiest. And two he as said somethings that will be like a hard kick in your stomach. But sometimes you need that person in your life who can tell you what you need to hear so you can move on to do what you really want to do. This was the last one with him, because like the saying goes, he's work was done and it's time to move on. and we will follow him as we work om our own journeys. And he'll be right there look over our shoulders. And whispering a fine point or two. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE. AND AS ALWAYS YOU KNOW IF YOU NEED ANY OF US WE HAVE YOUR BACK .π

Hello everyone. If you have never been to a live AMA that I do every Saturday at 1pm EST you don't want to miss what is coming in these last two sessions we have before the close of this community on May 22nd. I mentioned this in our last AMA session that this group would be going away as I am building and pursuing my dreams and goals. Of course the website www.stepstovoiceoversuccess.com will continue to be there for all of you training needs with its courses and 1-on-1 sessions with me. I am excited to see people in this group step up and become leaders. This is one of my greatest joys! Many of you know about my brand new show launching on May 25th called The Earl Hall Show. I am excited about interviewing some of you even on that show. There are a lot of great things happening and I am excited about this next chapter for me and Earl Hall Studio LLC. Let us all continue to #grindanddontquit - Earl

Where I live down here in deep south Texas. You still have power outages and wifi outages. Friday was one of them. Power way out and wifi was out as well. So the question is what do you do if it hits you on the very day you have a project due? The power outage is an easy fix, buy an large external battery that last say for 4 hours. Now the wifi. That's a toughy. I have that happen to me when Houston got hit by a Hurricane, I went to the nearest hospital or I could have gone to a fire house or police station, and was going to use their electricity. all three have back up generations. But here all three are too far for me to go to. And I don't drive anymore by chose. And I think wifi towers have their own back up power. ( as long and the don't get knocked down.) Any ideas?

I will add to the point Greg was making , connect your computer to your phone ( tethering is the term) ost phones allow you to use them as a wifi hot spot. Just remember that data will be transferred via cellular so it won't move as fast.. this is in part why I strongly attempt to get projects done and remitted as quickly as possible. You will run into issues and late projects regardless of the client relationships are not always welcomed late
Hey Lovely People! I would love to get some feedback on this audition I've recorded for acx. Please let me know your thoughts on the read itself and the sound quality. Thanks in advance for your help and thanks for all the wonderful info I've been able to learn from this group! R

That right there was awesome brother.. man I enjoyed that!.. Keep that great work going
I gave old girl an up grade. Bought a pack of sound proofing tiles And super glued them inside the milk crate. There's far less room for the sound to move around. But I like the result. Yea I could have bought one of Amazons portable sound boxes. But where's the fun in that. I'm also posting two clips of the test I did. Test is unprocessed and test2 is after processing With Amplifier, And ns1 wave for the basic sound. Now I get to play with reverb, echo and all the other effects.π Dear Santa, I've been an ok boy this year 2024 please can I have one of the grown up sound booths. Where there's a will :grind and don't you dear quit. π

Can anyone who has done a book on acx tell me what to do after I've finished the book? I have recorded it all, but I think the author has to approve the 15 minute checkpoint before I can submit the chapters. Does that sound like it is correct? The author sent me a message that he approved it, but I still have a message in my folder saying I'm waiting for approval of the 15 minute checkpoint.

I am glad to hear that ... always here to help
Earl has often shared with us about how less is often MORE when we process our audio. I have started to learn that lately. Attached are two files: - The first file is my final Demo audio file for Public Service Announcements - re-edited today in 2023. - - The second audio file is the FIRST file I originally did in 2018 - that first job had way too much processing on it - In that first file, I took my original audio and cut it by -3db from 1200hz to the end in the audio and a bunch of other equipment stuff (thinking I was making it sound better lol). That destroyed my natural voice and added in lots of echo and cut the meat out of my voice. - - I am posting both as an example of Earl's sharing that we should not overprocess our audio! - - Hope you found it helpful! Blessings to all!

As a woman, your Sibilant range usually kicks up around 8k and up..did you find your sibilance in that region?
I absolutely love the Snap Studio Earl shared with us in the past AMA sessions. Unfortunately, I can't put up a studio no matter what its size is where I live, but I love exploring the options for when I move to a place where I can! (I am caretaker for my beloved 82 year old Mother that has recovered from cancer / chemo/ radiation over the last year and half and live in a home with 3 other people lol. Absolutely love them all but I am looking forward to getting back to living alone in my own space! lol) In the meantime, for those that are looking for cost-efficient options, I am sharing a few links/videos that I hope you find helpful... Except for the first youtube link, all the links below are those that I emailed myself looking for options that might work in my current living environment, which will only allow for a studio arrangement on a desktop that I can put up and take down off the desktop after each and every recording session. Some of these options might require putting up some acoustic panels inside the desktop arrangement.... And if that's the case, maybe just using cushions and a blanket might work just as well! If I could put up a studio in my home, I would hands down go with the snap studio and be done with it! lol (Here is Earl's Amazon Affiliate link for the Snap Studio: https://amzn.to/3FJHlmS) **************************** VO Booth under $100 (Home Depot will cut the PV pipes to my preferred size): https://youtu.be/jir87bwoQoQ Desktop Booth with Head Hood - $425 (snap studio is $499 but only 3x3, so I can't fit over the desk) VOMO -Portable β Voice Over MObile Audio Recording Booth. β VocalBoothTo... With those limitations, then you should really look at one of the kaorica eyeball imitations. Personally think that and some really good noise reduction software should do the trick
So I finally had a few free moments ( man life comes hard and fast sometimes).. But while enjoying a New York City spring day ( for the 23 minutes it lasts) I saw this post by Mr Bill.. So here is my humble contribution,,

@Novella Childress many many people don't have one. However preventative maintenance is SUPER IMPORTANT. It helps you learn your system better. Learn what changes or improvements you may or may not need. And my honest top reason is not just to prevent problems, but allows you to troubleshoot issues as they happen. Losing a client or worse can be detrimental to your business
Just think there's someone who wishes they could get up on Monday morning and Just walk into the kitchen have their coffee and then go to work. In their PJ'S. Guess what? Voice over artiest can.π

No success at all to this point. It was created for actors, as is there sister site Mandy.. there's work there, but you are competing with the entire world... but I still browse them daily.. get there daily emails n such
HEY EVERYONE I'm sitting here editing and I starting g thinking about how xan I help everyone in this journey. As you know I frequently say you edit with π as well as π... so here are 2 things 1. Hit record in your DAW ( digital audio workstation) and record your breathing nosies , and mouth noises. Why ? Now you have a personal reference of what they look like . So when you look at your recording you can know what a breath, mouth click or pop and sibilance ( the strong s or c or harsh t sound) look like 2. All breathing is not bad , there are times when it's a part of your wprd and if you cut it then you may chop that part of a word. So my tip ( was taught to me but I use it daily) highlight that occurrence once you do goto your effect and use the fade in function ( I usually tap 2 times ] 3. You will find it fade the harshness out and makes the breathing or whatever sound error lighter, in alot of cases it will make it part of the sentence.. 4. Give a try and let me know how it works 4 you. πππππ

Hi. This is just info from a hard-learned lack of knowledge. If you are creating content, and we all are, even in your DAW - the way that you save files for both audio and visual can eat up the space on your hard drive very quickly. It might be an idea to purchase an external hard-drive with a couple of terabytes. Just a thought.

NO LIES TOLD HERE... the only thing more profound than what Ms Ruth said are the tears that runs down your face when u lose the job in you daw as well as the content you already completed and can't get back... or the loss of trust from that client who entrusted you with a project and most likely won't use you again!!!
This last Saturday, and no AMA meeting. That felt weird not see you all.π

My day felt so strange, like there was something I forgot to do
Hi Guys, working on my Demo and wanted to try my next potential clip. I also included a dry read to listen for any noise in the background. Is my voice or music too loud? Too soft? Thoughts?

I fully agree, that's y I listened to ot on some studio monitors and my headphones. Music fits well, it's ducked under your read at the appointed time. Read is good cadence and diction is appropriate for the track. Point is well recieved.. again I think you did and excellent job with this. Be proud of this work it's very good..
I just ordered this piece of gear from rode this morning. https://amzn.to/40BeeKn It is the #rodcasterpro2 and I am very excited about getting this installed in my #studio for #contentcreation #livestreaming and #voiceover I have loved my original #rodecaster for over a year now. This piece of gear checks off all the boxes for me and what I need in my studio as an #audiointerface and more. Of course I will let you know how it performs π€©

SEEE can't blame this one on me !!!! However I saw this coming, it's supposed to be above and beyond.... can't wait fr your review.... ( as I sit at my desk deciding what to buy nextππ)
Yesterday I received and email from a client whom I had sent a audition to. The platform shows if they listened ( which they did) and if they like they can shortlist you ( which on the platform they DID NOT). After the cordial greetings they mentioned that they had selected me as 1 of the 5 finalist for the job ( electric truck manufacturers). Their question was that they were pressed to meet deadline and if I was selected for the job would I be able to provide a turnaround by the end ( end of day) this was at 3pm est and their end was 7pm est. My response was ABSOLUTELY ( yes actual response all caps) . At 4 pm o recieced a response that they were going in another direction, but the representative stated that I was his choice. Would I mind if they added me to there personal list of vo artists as to avoid the hassles of searching ? Again I responded yes and thanked them for just being considered Your customer service , wether you do or don't get that job can determine your jobs in the future , and establish your reputation Just my 2 cents

Today like most of the AMA sessions are epic. The congregation of like minded people pushing towards 1 objective from different points is absolutely beautiful. Those low days when I don't wanna grind I think of everyone 8n this group and I get up and push.. I have no success ,But We as a family have . And that's what I enjoy the most.. we make each other better!!!

Talk about an extra NOISY day! Here in good ole California, we had rain and more rain, and more rain. So much rain this particular day, I lost out on 3 auditions. Because of the intensity of the wind and rain, it was next to impossible to process out the added noise. There was still some noise going on in the background after several attempts. As submission time was ending, I threw in the towel. So now I'm challenged once again to find further methods for processing audio in adverse situations. Next time I'll be better prepared. I live fight and grow another day. GADQ

Mouth clicks , fans and air conditions,, some plosives refrigerator the hum from florescent lights all have a frequency. And it's usually below 80, so by cutting your eq at the lower I ne you will eliminate a good bit of those sounds.. then you use less noise reduction software. Thus less cpu usage... if you set the cut at 8phz you can leave it at that abd not touch it. You will see the difference..
