JSM
External Data for Jira Fields app
Hi, anyone using this app? I'm struggling with completing the configuration screen for a Search field because I can't determine whether to enter a data source field (JSON path format) or a JSM custom field ID. The vendor, codefortynine, has decent online documentation but I need the "for Dummies" version, I guess. 😄

I currently use this app. The learning curve has been very steep for me not being super technical. Their documentation is good but it’s just a lot to learn to get going. I’d highly recommend getting on a call with them for the initial setup (I wish I did that). The other alternative on the market to this app may be a bit simpler but I’ve never used it: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/23337/elements-connect-external-data-fields-for-jira?hosting=datacenter&tab=overview

Jira Forms & Automation
Hey Community! I'm building out a PoC here at my org. I'm looking to mature and revamp our onboarding process. This is my idea and want to bounce it off of the community here. Im looking to use Atlassian Forms for HR to submit a request, and leverage REST API to integrate JSM with a tool that we use for active directory management. Has anyone done anything with Atlassian Forms for HR workflows, and what was your experience?

I’m the Jira admin at an MSP, meaning we do employee on/offboarding for 50+ companies - thousands of on/offboardings per year - and everything is run through JSM Forms. HR teams from our clients fill out the forms and we as the IT provider handle all the IT work from provisioning accounts to shipping devices. All of our form fields are connected to Jira custom fields so we can use all the results in subsequent automations such as provisioning accounts or creating other tickets to send/retrieve hardware. Form conditions are great for only asking for the information needed. The only pushback we ever get is if the HR team uses a specific HRIS where they enter all their information into and don’t want to then go and fill it into a form after that. In those cases you may be able to trigger the creation of the JSM ticket via webhook or use tools like those provided by https://onwardb.com

JSM Customer Portal Customization
Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a marketplace app or tool to help me fully customize the JSM customer portal look and feel. I've managed to do a little with the built in tools, but I'm being asked to get the thing to look like our full corporate style. Not sure if there's anything out there, but thought I'd ask.

Jira
Rest API learning resources
What’re the best/quickest ways for setting up and learning to make API requests with Jira and the Atlassian cloud platform overall? I’d appreciate any recommendations for trainings, thanks!

My company just started using n8n and it has been a game changer. I thought we were cooking with Jira automation but this has upped the game significantly. We send Jira data to n8n through web request and build the workflow and all the different API connections there then bring it back into the Jira ticket. The things we can do now are unreal and we’ve started moving many of our API related automations out of Jira automation. Hooked it to use the Gemini API instead of Rovo for more flexibility on the models we can use. The ability to merge data and the error handling are way more advanced.
