Ants in Containers
Hey all, while this is more of a bonsai question I thought I'd ask. Has anyone had issues with ants in their containers? 3 of my Bonsais are infested with them. I read that if you have ants it is due to an aphid infestation but I've seen no signs of them. Any thoughts?

@Donna Scarborough thanks for the info, the soil is a custom mix for the bonsais and has some perlite in there.
UK Container Plants for Driveway
Hi all, we had our driveway extended at the beginning of the year. On the right side we have a space where there is a small hedge, a "multi-coloured" rose bush (Red, White, Cream, Yellow and Orange) and some left over stumps from the original hedges that aligned the front of the house. I'm looking to make some rectangular containers (waist height) to go along the left side, what plants do you feel I should plant in there? We used to have a wasp issue in the loft each year when the hedge was there so ideally want to avoid anything to attract the wasps back.

@Donna Scarborough our house is north facing and the sun goes overhead, so the driveway gets sun all through the year. Ideally colourful but the rest I'm not fussed about :)
Me Again- Pepper Plant Drama
So I split my pepper plants (bought as double plant in single bucket) and put them in containers today. One of the plants got less of the root ball and original dirt mixture. It has been limp and lifeless since I planted it. I staked both plants, as they were leaning over without the support of the other plant. Please tell me plant #2 is just being a Drama Queen, and will recover.

Do you have a picture you could share? If the "limp" one hasn't received as much of the root mass as the other it could be the plant showing signs of lack of water due to not having as much root mass. Depending on the plant you may need to prune some of the structure so there is less demand for water but I'd only do this as a last resort.

@Donna Scarborough Thank you :) I loose bonsai's each year but I'm lucky that we have a number of tree varieties that naturally grow in the containers themselves (you can see a few in the fruit tree containers already, just waiting to be plucked out)

@Donna Scarborough Interesting, I was always told the first "crop" should be left to do just that, either fall naturally or shrivel on the plant. I have major problems with the pear tree (thats the one the looks like it's all burnt) but it seems to have done better this year. I planted a sunburst dark cherry start of the year. The ones that I get the most from are the two apple trees and the plum tree
