🌱 Don't Panic—June Is Not Too Late to Plant!
Have you looked at your containers lately and thought: "𝑊𝑒𝑙𝑙, 𝐼 𝑔𝑢𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝐼'𝑚 𝑏𝑒ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟." If so, you're not alone. Every June, gardeners start comparing themselves to the pictures they see online. Someone is harvesting tomatoes. Someone else has overflowing baskets of flowers. Meanwhile, you may still have empty pots sitting on the deck waiting for attention. Here's the good news: 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭. In fact, many vegetables, herbs, and flowers actually prefer the warm soil temperatures we have right now. While some spring crops may be slowing down, there's still plenty of time to grow a productive and beautiful container garden. The secret isn't focusing on what you missed. The secret is focusing on what you can plant today. 🌎𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫: 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐚 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐞 One of the wonderful things about our community is that gardeners come from all over the country. Some members are harvesting peas. Others are just planting them. Some gardeners are battling summer heat while others are finally seeing nighttime temperatures warm enough for tomatoes and peppers. That's why comparing your garden to someone else's rarely helps. The calendar may say June, but your growing season depends on your local conditions. Instead of asking: "𝐴𝑚 𝐼 𝑏𝑒ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑑?" Try asking: "𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝐼 𝑔𝑟𝑜𝑤 𝑛𝑒𝑥𝑡?" That small shift changes everything. 🌱 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐬 If you'd like results relatively quickly, consider: - Bush Beans - Radishes - Green Onions - Baby Lettuce (cooler regions) - Arugula Many of these can provide a harvest in just a few weeks. 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭-𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐬 Warm weather gardeners still have excellent options: - Cucumbers - Peppers - Eggplant - Okra - Basil These plants often appreciate the warmer soil temperatures that June provides. 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 Want to brighten up your patio, deck, or balcony? Try: - Zinnias - Marigolds - Nasturtiums - Moss Rose (Portulaca) Not only are they beautiful, but many pollinators love them too.

Good morning, Donna I saw this post in another group and not that I need soil, but I am wondering if you know if it's any good? I've also never heard of this store. It's here in Texas, but who knows it maybe in other states and may help someone else as well.

June Container Gardening Series-Herbs That Thrive When Summer Heats Up
If your vegetable containers are already full, don't worry. There's still plenty of room in your garden for herbs. In fact, many herbs absolutely love the warm temperatures of June and often become more productive as summer settles in. Whether you have a sunny patio, a deck filled with containers, or just a few pots near the kitchen door, herbs are one of the easiest and most rewarding plants you can grow. The best part? A single herb plant can provide months of harvests while taking up very little space. Let's look at some summer-loving favorites. 🌱 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐳𝐞: 1–3 gallons 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: Full sun 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐭: Basil thrives in warm weather and grows quickly once temperatures stay consistently warm. Perfect for: * Salads * Pasta dishes * Homemade pesto * Pizza toppings 𝐏𝐫𝐨 𝐓𝐢𝐩 Pinch off the growing tips regularly to encourage bushier growth. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 Letting flowers form too early. Once basil starts flowering, leaf production slows down. Pinch off flower buds as soon as they appear. 🌿 𝐎𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐨: 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐭 𝐎𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐳𝐞:: 1–2 gallons 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭t: Full sun 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐭: Oregano is one of the toughest herbs you can grow. It tolerates heat, occasional dry spells, and keeps producing throughout the season. Perfect for: * Italian dishes * Pizza sauce * Roasted vegetables 𝐏𝐫𝐨 𝐓𝐢𝐩 Harvest often to keep plants compact and productive. 🌱 𝐓𝐡𝐲𝐦𝐞: 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭, 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐳𝐞:: 1 gallon or larger 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: Full sun 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐭: Thyme is incredibly low-maintenance and doesn't mind summer heat. Its compact growth habit makes it perfect for gardeners with limited space. Perfect for: * Chicken dishes * Soups * Roasted potatoes 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 Overwatering. Thyme prefers slightly drier conditions than many other herbs. 🌿 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭-𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐳𝐞:: 3–5 gallons 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: Full sun 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐭: Rosemary practically thrives on sunshine and warm temperatures.
June Container Gardening Series – Day 3 Fast-Growing Crops You Can Still Start in June
One of the most common questions gardeners ask in June is: "𝐴𝑚 𝐼 𝑡𝑜𝑜 𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔?" The good news is that June is far from the end of the gardening season. In fact, there are plenty of crops that thrive when started now, especially in containers. Many of these plants grow quickly and can provide harvests in just a few weeks. If your spring planting plans got delayed or if you're just looking for something new to grow—here are some great options to start this month. 𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐞 Many loose-leaf lettuce varieties mature in as little as 30–45 days. While summer heat can make lettuce bolt more quickly, container gardeners have an advantage. Move your pots to a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade to extend your harvest. 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬 If you're looking for quick results, radishes are hard to beat. Many varieties are ready in just 25–35 days. They don't require deep containers and are a fun crop for gardeners who enjoy seeing fast progress. 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐡 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 Bush beans grow beautifully in containers and often produce a harvest within 50–60 days. They're productive, easy to care for, and don't require the support structures that pole beans need. 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐎𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 Green onions are one of the easiest crops to grow in containers. They take up very little space and can be harvested repeatedly by cutting the tops and allowing them to regrow. 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥 June is an ideal time to start basil. Warm temperatures encourage rapid growth, and a single plant can provide months of fresh leaves for cooking, freezing, and drying. 𝐂𝐮𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 Compact bush cucumber varieties perform surprisingly well in containers. Give them a sunny location, consistent watering, and a small trellis for support. Before long you'll be harvesting fresh cucumbers right from your patio or deck. 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐬𝐡 Compact zucchini and summer squash varieties are excellent container choices. Just be sure to provide a large enough pot and consistent moisture. 𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 Swiss chard handles summer temperatures better than many leafy greens. Its colorful stems also add beauty to patios and balconies while providing a steady supply of nutritious leaves.
