Painted in gouache from a photo taken during a winter holiday. Small painting 20cmw x 15cm. The water in the foreground was very difficult to paint - and the sky is far too "busy" (how can I soften edges in gouache?), but I enjoyed the painting process. I mistakenly thought this would be fairly straightforward - it wasn't.

This is an 8 x 10 acrylic on canvas done on a snowed in day. I see things I would have done differently, but it was an enjoyable piece.

It has been a long time since I have picked up a brush. Thirty years ago I painted nearly daily and was decent. Over the weekend, inspired by my wife’s gifts of paint and brushes I gave it a shot. It was frustrating but very enjoyable. I welcome your comments. The scene are Olive trees from Gasperina, Italy, overlooking the Mediterranean. The trees were old and gnarled (and yes the one in the foreground had a hole through it). I will post the scene photo I used too. I will start off the first comment. In the background, is that a line of trees or a very large caterpillar.

Yesterday was a beautiful morning in Hawaii. Perfect to paint a morning scene.
