I'm going to Everest!
I wanted to share 2 massive upcoming events that I'll be taking part in for 2023 that I'm super excited about! The first one Everest Basecamp. From April 27-May 16, I'll be heading to Lukla, Nepal with 8 others and spending the next two weeks trekking up to Everest Basecamp! I've never done anything like this before and couldn't be more excited. We'll be walking up a total of 8300 ft and just shy of 70 km in total one way but because of the reduced oxygen levels, we'll have to spread it out of several days to avoid altitude sickness. Given how I've been more of a gym goer and someone on the higher end of metabolisms, these next 4 months for me will be a balance of adding more endurance, weight, and muscle to be prepared for what's to come (including the inevitable weight loss on my end lol). The second is my first Triathlon in Toronto in July! I've done 5k, 10k and 15k runs via Tough Mudder and 50km bike rides via Ride for Heart, but the one thing I haven't done is swim long distance. It's been one of my fears to swim in an open lake for meters on end, let alone 750m. So more training on my end needed there as well. Nonetheless, doing a Triathlon like this is has been on my bucket list for a long time, and I can't wait to do it. I've always been one to neglect endurance where I can (I do the bare minimum to keep me fit like getting my steps in and doing weekly HIITs), but one things for sure - seeing 2 locked dates in your calendar has made me add endurance in just to be overprepared. That being said - having the fundamentals of nutrition, movement, rest and emotion control basically automated internally (habits), allows me to be able to partake in events like this without any fear and that is empowering. This is WHY I do what I do in coaching - I want to help people master their health habits so that they increase their capacity to not only look the part, but feel empowered to do things they were once limited by. If you're currently stuck in a place where you have some weight to lose, energy to regain and habits to rewire and you want to upgrade your baseline to a place where signing up for a triathlon is something you can do without too much thought...

This is a massive undertaking! How are you preparing for this?
Ever tried eating in silence?
I recently noticed that I've become addicted to stimulation wherever I am. Watching youtube while eating.. Listening to music while working out... Scrolling on tiktok in the washroom... Listening to podcasts while driving... Every single moment outside of working (which I usually do in silence) was fueled with sound or stimulus. And that in turn has caused my mind to become clouded and uncalm. I noticed this because meditating has become more difficult, my mind is more distracted, I'm more prone to procrastination when geting work done and my ability to sleep has altered. This was sign that my mind needed space. Space away from stimulation. So I started leaving my phone in one spot while at home and only using my phone in that spot. That meant eating in silence. Going to the washroom in silence. Lying on my bed trying to sleep in silence. Working out in silence. Walking in silence. This was very difficult at first. My mind craved something, anything. But after a few days, it subsided. I noticed the details of the food I made - taste, texture, flavour. I became more connected with my breathing and muscles activated during training. I fell asleep faster and basically got my time back. On a larger scale, I reset my dopamine levels to allow the things that drive peak health to feel normal again (and not something I didn't want to do). If you feel like eating healthy, working out, meditating and doing normal things like walking are boring. Get comfortable with silence.

I find this is a problem for many people. Stimulation is all around us as the silence makes people actually uncomfortable. I'm looking for the sounds of nature more than anything else now a days.
Air Fryer Tofu
What’s up guys, how’s everyone doing? Wanted to share something cool (many of you might already know this, but it was exciting for me lol). I made tofu for the first time in the air fryer yesterday, and used one of those rubber pasty brushes to put just a bit of avocado oil on the surface of the sliced tofu. It turned out to have this perfect golden crispy texture when it came out. Tasted so good! I was never able to get that texture and colour when I pan fried it in the past, without using a lot of oil. The air fryer is my new favourite appliance 😂

I usually roast my tofu after using some spray oil and spices. I don't have a ton of room for an air fryer but I admit its a great tool.
How to curb hunger pangs
If you're trying to cut back on calories (to lose weight) You're probably going to experience moments in your day when you want to snack on something... To avoid derailing your weight loss efforts, you want to look for foods that: 1. you can eat a lot of (high volume) 2. that are not calorie dense These kinds of foods are typically high in either fiber or protein. Here are some examples: - oats - low fat greek yogurt - vegetable soups - berries - watermelon - popcorn - protein shakes

oatmeal with berries and protein powder is a great snack or breakfast. I like to have some apples or bananas with peanut butter.

That’s why I love fantasy sports. It gives you a purpose to learn and enjoy. Baseball is starting in a few months. You should start to read up on it and jump in!
