A cold outreach crime scene...
When I was a noobie copywriter I saw that almost every copywriter in the same stage as I was had one thing in common. They were all doing low effort outreach. I remember another noobie DMing me and asking if it would be okay if we helped each other out with cold outreach. At this point I already landed my first ever client. I agreed and we started updating each other on our progress. I was gathering at least 50 prospects and reaching out to them everyday. When I asked him to show me what he was doing… I almost cried. He was reaching out to 5 prospects everyday. Each with the worst possible outreach message anyone could ever send AND his instagram profile was hideous. A cold outreach crime scene… He was angry that he wasn't getting any positive replies. "Nobody is giving me a chance, cold outreach is fake." But the truth is, he was just barely putting in any effort! I decided to help him. I told him to post some reels of him talking, use his face as his profile picture, I sent him some examples of good outreach messages that have gotten ME positive replies, told him to do MORE outreach, And I showed him how I find good prospects step-by-step. 2 weeks later I decided to check up with him, He told me that he's now doing "more" outreach everyday, he fixed everything he could and he's still not landing any clients. So I asked him "How many outreaches are you doing everyday?" He said 15. When I asked why he told me that it's because the outreach messages I told him to send were personalized and it takes a lot of time to reach out to every prospect. Meanwhile, I was doing the same exact type of outreach to at least 50 people everyday, While also posting on my account, going to school, practicing copy and helping around the house. This either meant that he's bad at managing his time OR he's just not putting in any real effort. This lack of effort comes from the expectation that landing a client with cold outreach will be easy. The way you set your expectations determines EVERYTHING!!
