🤸 Men’s Gymnastics Reminds Me Of...
I just had a meeting with the men’s gymnastics coaches going over the season. We talked about: • what went well • what did not go well • what needs to improve • what matters most moving forward And the interesting part is this: It did not matter what level we were talking about. These are athletes from: • just getting started • building confidence • learning basics • all the way to athletes who want to one day compete internationally And yet the biggest lesson was still the same. 🔑 The 2 things that lead to mastery Regardless of level, the 2 biggest ingredients are: • Foundations • Progressions That is it. Not shortcuts. Not flashy skills too early. Not trying to skip steps. 🧱 1. Foundations set up the future The better your foundations are, the easier everything becomes later. That means: • better shapes • better technique • better control • better strength • fewer bad habits • more confidence moving forward This applies to everything. In gymnastics. In calisthenics. In handstands. In pull-ups. In mobility. In life. A lot of people want advanced results with beginner foundations. That usually does not work for long. 📈 2. Progressions are what make growth possible The right progression does 3 things: • it is challenging • it is achievable • it is clean enough to build from That middle part matters. Because if the progression is too hard, you usually compensate. If it is too easy, you do not grow. If it is the right one, you build momentum. And that is what people often miss. They think progress means moving on as fast as possible. But real progress means staying on the right step long enough to actually own it. 💡 The big takeaway Whether you are a beginner or advanced, mastery still comes back to the same idea: • build strong foundations • use the right progressions • do not rush what needs time That is what sets up long term success. ⏳ One more reminder It is okay to miss one extra exercise. It is okay to do less variety.
