6 contributions to 7-Day Breath Hold Challenge
Post Your Breath Hold (Week 5: Jan 26th - Feb 2nd)
Have you mastered the first 7 days of the Breath Hold Challenge? A recent study among a group of elite rugby athletes shows a ~8% VO2peak improvement; within 10 minutes and with just one single breath holding exercise The good part? You can do this too in the comfort of your own home. The exercise is a variant of an O2 table with two differences: - It's on exhale (you hold your breath after you exhale) - It's dynamic (you are moving while you are holding your breath) Here's what to do: - Sit down on a stationary bike (an elliptical trainer or rowing machine works as well) - Adjust the resistance to zero for a no load session - Perform six maximum capacity breath holds on exhale, with 30 second rest - Exercise for 10 minutes during these breath holds Feeling energized? The extra performance can last up to 5 hours after workout. What a great way to start the day (or week). 😎 Give it a try & share your findings with the group. 👇

RORY, The instructions are unclear. Can you re0frame the timing? 10 minutes rowing during 6 holds with breaks of 30 seconds?

@Phillip de Bruyn Sorry for being dumb. I need details. Rowing with no load makes no sense, then I row for 2 minutes and then stop to do the breathing and the holding, and then row again, or I breathe while 'rowing with no load' and then stop for holding? Not clear at all. Apologies , as many seem to be wok with th explanation. I want to do it properly, not jump from one option to another with no valid explanation. Thanks anwyay!

Rory, I am sorry but I did not get a response from my question from last week: Does the breath hold and keeping more CO2 in the blood as we can hold it for longer times, help in any way towards the alcalinization of the blood? I asked and started getting tables with numbers, etc, but not a formal response. thanks!

@Rory Phelan many thanks for the detailed explanation! I thought it was a complex process and you just proved it.!!

I think this question is relevant for everyone: I have heard endless times about the relevance of keeping our blood in an alkaline environment, as many diseases, including cancer, grow in acidic blood and alkaline environments are not good for them, as well as some viruses, bacteria etc. . Healthful eating (fruits, etc) leads to alkaline blood, but I have to ask: Is the holding breath exercises, which by definition accumulate excess CO2 in the body, is this CO2 participating in any way with improving the alkalinity of the blood? This would be a powerful motivation for people to keep practising, but I am not sure if this is a fact. Care to explain please??

@Bruce Stayne Well Bruce, now you know! Both Vitamin D in enough amounts circulating plus an alkaline blood will help you stay away from several diseases and infections, including many cancer cells. If you go down in time back to the Ayurvedic medicine from 3-4 thousand years ago, you may read the ever-present suggestion to have a lime/lemon juice in warm water as the very first thing to have on an empty stomach, as a way to make the blood alkaline at the start of the day. Today, many suggest apple cider vinegar for the same goal. Then, should the breathing-holding practices improve this, all the better! That is the confirmation I am trying to get from someone who can tell for sure! BTW, Tons of carbohydrates in your diet will do just the opposite.

Post all your Breath Hold Times here! Let's go & double your breath hold! 🧑‍🏫 Step 1: Take an inhale, start your stopwatch & hold your breath. Step 2: Post your time here so you can get feedback and points Step 3: Head on over to the Classroom & follow the instructions Already participated last week, or last month? No worries, you can post and do it as much as you want (as a matter of fact, we'd only encourage it 😎) And if you done the challenge once (or twice), feel free to shake it up a little bit. Do exhale breath holds only for a week, or take it easy and do 1-2 breath holds a day without going for a max. Variety is the spice of life. Get to level 4 in the Leaderboards, and you unlock the Superhuman Lungs training protocol (who doesn't want to have lungs like the Human Dolphin?) Post at least 3 times before the week is over, and you may be the lucky winner of the Breath Hold Mastery course 😎 And last (but not least) a little shout out to last weeks top 10 leaderboard: @Mucchan Toshima @Curro Cachinero @Denis Blanchard @Tina Mosner @Bruce Stayne @Inese Rieta @Elliot Raboy @Abednego Moses Suryanda @Luca Pinelli @Teija Lehtinen

I wonder why I am getting warm with Stig's method while I used to get a cool and sometimes cold wave (which i loved) when using Wim Hoff method years ago?
3 likes • Nov '24
@Rory Phelan Many thanks, Rory!! This clears up my doubts and, of course, creates this curiosity about testing both options because, as far as I can remember, I never made it to the 3-minute line when using Wim's hyperventilation method, so it was not more efficient in that regard. I like the explanation for the cool feeling, though!
