Text for Co-Writing
I wrote this text a little while back, but have never been totally happy with any of the tunes I’ve tried. If anyone has any ideas, I’d love to hear someone else’s take on it! I Am His 1). My heart cannot contain the whole Of all the joy that fills my soul; For Christ has looked upon my sin, And still He bids me come to Him. He sees my every fault and shame, And yet He calls to me by name; And so I leave all else behind; For I am His and He is mine. 2). For He is mine, and I am His In me He dies; in Him I live In Him I move, in Him I breathe In Him my joy is made complete. In Him my sins are washed away, In Him I’m cleansed of guilt and shame. In Him I know the riches of The Father’s mercy and His love. 3). How can it be that Christ should die For such a lowly wretch as I? Why should he bleed for my offense? Why should I gain His righteousness? What boundless love, what endless grace That Christ would suffer in my place For He has died that I might live; He bore my sin to make me His. 4). My heart cannot contain the whole Of all the joy that fills my soul For Christ has conquered all my sin And rose to walk in life again. Now as He lives, so too shall I, For in His triumph death has died; And so I leave all else behind For I am His and He is mine.

Just shooting out a few ideas while I've got a little bit of focus time this afternoon.

I’ve got something at that exact time next week already, but I hope to make the next one!
Father, Give Me Eyes To See
Hey guys! Would love any feedback you have on how to improve this hymn, especially related to the tune. I just recorded the first two stanzas here, but it’s the same melody all the way. — Father, give me eyes to see Beauty in Your sovereignty. Give me faith to trust Your ways, For You’ve numbered all my days. Though I may not understand All the workings of Your plan, Help me trust You as I should; Help me see that You are good. Father, when my joy is full Keep my faith from growing dull Keep me far from pride and greed, Still to trust You for each need. Fix my eyes upon this truth: All I have has come from You. Let me boast in nothing more Than the goodness of my Lord. Father, when my spirit groans And I feel I am alone Help me see Your tender care In each burden that I bear. Use my trials and my pain All for growth and godly gain Lord, I know that You are good; Help me trust You as I should. Father, give me eyes to see Christ enthroned in majesty Bathe me in Your radiant light Turn my faith to glorious sight Lord, I long to see Your face And to join the angels’ praise, But until that blessed day, I will trust Your perfect ways.

I thought the lyrics and the simplicity of the tune was really nice in this! It definitely drew my heart out in praise and reflection upon biblical truth.
Easter Song - Second Chances
This is a little tune I wrote in response to a prompt to write a song on “second chances”. I think it should done Capo 2 (for me, at least). Lyrics and chords are in the YouTube description. Feedback welcome … obviously not intended for congregational use. https://youtu.be/CHfyACMWYhk?si=ix-mkG0A9FA_vOlN

I like the theme of second chances and some of the clear scriptural illusions. And some of it is just straight scripture! And it progresses through Peter’s story well. Thanks for sharing!
Writing Style
Started working on a new song Saturday after practicing for worship Sunday morning. Will try to get a good recording and post tonight. Struggling with flow of a couple of lines in the verses right now. What's everyone's writing style? Do you have lyrics first then music or a tune in your head first then write lyrics to the tune? I tend as primarily a musician who is new to trying to write to have a tune or melody pop in my head then start trying to put lyrics to it. Would love suggestions for workflow when writing.

It is kind of a mixture for me. Sometimes a melody comes into my head and I try to record it on my phone before I forget it. Other times I write words and then try to make a melody to that. Another times if I find a nice chord progression, I try to put a melody to that.
