AI...
AI.... SOooooo.... thought I might throw out a 'controversial' topic.... what do peeps think of using AI generated parts in their music? Are you having success? Inspiration? I know I have been very pleasantly surprised in a variety of ways and would love to hear your experiences. :D

While I respect everyone’s positive insights and experiences with AI, this new toy, I personally look more closely at 1) Creative process and 2) Ownership. I LOVE the creative process, snout to tail. I feel funny having to clarify now that as the HUMAN creative process. For me so far, that means no AI whatsoever. That said…there are some interesting case studies out there that don’t apply to or impact me (yet) such as I heard of a guy where his vocal cords were damaged and he could no longer sing so he somehow trained AI from his old vocal tracks to “sing” for him to record new songs. His fans can’t tell the difference, meanwhile. That’s scary to me but there you go. I mean…WOW! Who am I to negatively judge someone for that choice? Or in turn pre-judge myself if I ever am in that guy’s shoes? The details on copyright for AI are still being sorted out…it was trained on copyrighted work so ownership is partial at best PLUS the risk of getting sued. I want to own everything I make. And avoid lawsuits. So….once again, no AI. But that’s just me.

@Nick Allegro This was very cool! Thank you for organizing it! I had heard bits and pieces of this song but never the whole thing…and wasn’t aware (or MISSED) radio stations playing it. Further…you and others shared so many good insights on radio, airplay and the music industry that jogged up memories of radio! People showing up from around the world was great. For me it was remembering certain long songs that ONLY got played on Thanksgiving or Xmas…the soundtrack of holiday cooking! It isn’t done any more—too many commercials! Also…to an extent…people don’t cook any more…
Sync Licensing Question
Hey guys, I got an email saying it is from Spirit Music Group and a song of mine has been selected for a Netflix feature film. I first felt it was a scam however I submitted a brief questionaire which didn't ask any questions I felt could be used to scam me. Tonight I received a contract which looks legit however under one section titled "Administration Fee" it states "to secure and facilitate the guaranteed placement the artist agrees to pay a one-time, upfront, fully refundable administration fee". Is this a common practice? Unfortunately the Spirit Music Group website has no contact submission or I would ask them directly. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

@David Moore RE: Spirit Music Group is already aware of this scam and is working to get it closed down...if it hasn't been already Oh good! This is why I’m glad I didn’t rush to judge the company per se…glad everyone involved is doing due diligence. It is SO TERRIBLE when scammers prey on peoples’ dreams and legit hard work—no doubt they either have been successful or expect success…otherwise, why try it? SHAME!

@Garry Simmons RE: I'd bet there is another Mastering Intensive looming and this webinar will be a feeder into that... Yes…this has me wondering if it’s the same or similar to the other mastering event several months ago…Eh @Rob Mayzes ?
How are you managing the connection of your USB and TB gear?
With everything now being TB or USB how are you all managing the connection for all of this equipment? I want to clean up and streamline my connections but not sure how I will go about it just yet. I have USB for 4 keyboards/sound module, for 8 hard drives, flash drives,, MPC, webcam, charging for my phone, ect. I have Thunderbolt for my UA Apollo, DAC, UA satellite, ect. Point is that I have so many connections that I have to wonder how are other people managing.

@Paul Jones One answer is: color coding, where and to the extent possible. Not everything has to be black! Just saying…

@Paul Jones The short answer is: YES The long answer is: That is among MANY ways to color code. For example, I recently watched a vid where someone mentioned she bought (audio) cables in all sorts of colors to organize AND make them more favorable on-camera. She uses a certain company—I forget which—probably a brand sponsorship deal for her. But before then, it would not have occurred to me to think to order cables in anything other than black.
