Increased impressions with editing but poor ctr
OK, so here’s a weird thing. I edited the last two videos I did rather than just doing them extemporaneously. They’ve performed a better than the videos before them as I was in quite a dip, but here’s the weird thing. ~ The reach on these videos has been far greater than the videos before them ~ like in the range of 12,000 or 8,000. However… although they originally had a fairly decent CTR of 5 or 5 for the first couple hours, the CTR quickly plummeted to 1 or 0.5 but they keep on getting pushed. They don’t have more likes than other videos. One of them has more comments than the last bunch, but not in a gigantic manner. Originally their retention was better than normal, but they quickly went down, but still they keep getting pushed out. ~ Thoughts? So after thinking about it and brainstorming a bit with chat, it’s highly probable that the videos got pushed out more because the transcript was much more readable. In other words, there were no “um” or “you know” fillers, and the sentence structure and pacing and paragraph structure and logical flow of the narrative were all much stronger due to heavier scripting and editing. There’s a good chance that the LLM that Google/YouTube uses is able to read the potential appeal of a video directly from the transcript and push it out more aggressively. This is of course conjecture, but it’s the only variable that changed.

@Naz Meeajun 60-75% suggestions, 15-30% browse. The majority of the impressions were within the first 24-36 hours

It was a good roundtable. I’ve done a bunch of them on a different topic. In any niche, those are always pretty cool.
Asking AI for your blind spots
I watched Alexa’s video about this and I decided to try it. I use chat GPT quite a bit to organize video and blog ideas and posts, as well as for some other things so it has a pretty good history of me. It was quite interesting. The blind spots that came up with they seem to be quite accurate, and my girlfriend agreed. Then I tried a trick I saw Ali Abdal mention in terms of asking the AI for a scathing criticism, and it was even more direct and somewhat more insightful. as Dan Koe emphasizes, It is true that if you learn how to use AI and you learn how to structure prompts you can get much better information and output. I found the feedback quite useful and the more I interface with it more accurate it becomes in this type of feedback. It’s not a direct replacement for human coaching, but it is pretty interesting how much insight you can get from this especially if you use the correct prompts. It was actually pretty surprising how accurate it was considering that I haven’t been talking to it for years or anything. If you haven’t tried this, give it a shot ~ you might be quite surprised.
Videos I like versus videos I should make
I just realized that the videos I actually love are the ones that make me think — not the ones that hand out advice or step-by-steps. They shift how I see things, and the action comes later, if at all. But I’ve been feeling like I should make the kind of content I don’t even enjoy watching… just because that’s what’s supposed to “work.” I just need to find a way to mix real depth with a format that helps people find it, and some way to make a hybrid of what keeps people interested, and what provides real depth on the subject. I realize that I can’t confuse myself with the audience, but if I just make content that I would never want to watch i’ll burn out.

@Mike Bayer right on thanks a lot. Yeah, I’ve done YouTube for a long time so there’s a lot of enjoyment in it for me however, I am intrigued with the idea of being able to make a living doing the trick is to be able to do both. I have no desire to chase trends just to create something that works and works for me.
Fastest way to get my first 1,000 followers?
I haven’t even posted yet, but I want to go in with a strategy instead of just winging it. For those of you who have already started, what worked best for you in getting that first 1k followers?

My own experience: just start posting. Post a lot. That’s actually more of a strategy than you think.

I’ve had a YouTube channel for 14 years or so but for the most part, it was very niche and more of a hobby channel, but I’ve decided to expand it.
