Do you draw your own characters or like to use premades?
Im curious how many "from scratch" creators we have on here :) Also, id love to here about what some of your favorite premade characters are and why. Im always looking to see what others create and looking to learn from quality designs.

I’m still learning, so for now I’m using premade characters. At the same time, I’m also working on my first original character, which I created based on my own face 😅 It’s pretty comical to look at it, but I haven’t managed to make it work properly yet.

@Heather Ambrosio Thanks, Heather. Yes, it was a lot of work, and in the end the character didn’t function correctly. I tried saving it as an SVG from Affinity, but it didn’t include all the sprites, such as the different eyes and mouths. So I’ll have to redo it from scratch — but that’s okay, it’s all part of the learning process, right? 😆
Error on Exercise 25 - 12 Principles Course
Hi everyone, nice to meet you! I’m a beginner and I’m really enjoying the learning process, but I’ve got stuck on the exercise in Lesson 25 of the 12 Principles course (Secondary Action Exercise). I went back and redid the exercise several times from the beginning to check if I had done something wrong, but everything seems fine. However, when I import the motion clip for the character running with the gun in hand, the animation looks strange. The gun appears to be floating in space, as if it’s not connected to the character’s fist. Also, even though I changed the sprite from an open hand to a closed hand, it still displays the open hand. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Or any idea of what am I dong wrong? This is what it looks like:

Sorry, it might be something trivial, but I'm still beginning to learn

Hi Alan, thank you so much — I have good news! I found the issue: it was the FDD that was causing the shift. It seems that in CTA4 this feature may not be added automatically, whereas in CTA5 it is. You can see the result here: The only remaining concern is how this might affect future projects. Disabling FDD solved the issue here, but I’m wondering whether using FDD with characters that have attached props (hands, feet, etc.) could cause similar issues down the line. Thank you so much for your help — I really appreciate it! 👍👍👍
Testing a hybrid production style
I am thinking about an upcoming story in a 2D animation style which involves dinosaur toys coming to life. I have been trying to figure out how to do it using my established characters, and it occurred to me maybe I could just do the dino toys/characters in AI with a chromakey background (blue in this case), then key them into scenes I will animate in Cartoon Animator. So, for example, the characters (kids) are playing with dino toys, something magical happens, and the toys come to life, grow huge, and escape. Then the kids have to track down the dinos and magically turn them back into toys. Here's an experiment with a T-Rex coming to life and exiting screen right. First I created the character in nano banana, created different poses (front/side/back), then created this animation using Veo 3.1 Fast. It took multiple tries to get this right - it kept adding details I didn't describe. It also struggled to understand that I wanted the dino to exit screen right. I had uploaded the first frame, but realized I had to also upload a final frame with just the blue background, no dino. When I did that, it worked. It's not exactly what I was imagining, but pretty close. This took about 3 million credits, all told. 😬 Oh, yeah... and the footsteps are hilariously wrong. I would replace the sound on this clip with much better sounds.
