How to trigger a group?
Hi, next Friday I will host a retrospective for a diverse group of colleagues. They work together on 1 project, they also have a product owner, there is an agile/scrum structure. So what's not to like. Yet I see that the energy is gone from the team, they are not running ceremonies properly. They put their own spin on everything and are therefore in a negative spiral. I wanted to use the old-fashioned SAILING SHIP on Friday together with a central question. And I need your help there. What could be a triggering central question?

Hi, thanks for your thoughts. I can continue with your last suggestion. That is essentially the key to the problem. They drift (to stay in sailboat terms) a bit away from the agile/scrum core. Thanks hey. I'll let you know how it went.
A Controversial Opening
Hey all - Curious to get your perspective on something. I recently facilitated a session that, by all accounts, was successful (especially based on feedback survey from participants). I learned afterward that two people found the welcome/opening reading "troubling." The reading was "We Welcome All Who Gather Here." I used the reading as a strategy to set a tone of acceptance and welcome - but I learned there were some very conservative participants. 1) I could have done more homework to understand the participants, AND 2) How do you balance your own values and commitment to diversity and inclusivity with those who do not share that value?

HI @Colleen Broderick I haven't been able to read it, but I know the title. Did you give or copy the lecture in your own words? That could be the 'achilles heel' of everything. If you are inclusive from within yourself, no one would be able to say anything about that. But if you copy the words completely, it leaves room for dissatisfaction. I don't think it's fair, but that's how it often works.
Ideas for bringing a new CEO into the team
Hi Everyone I wanted to ask you if you have any ideas on how to bring an executive team and a new CEO onto the same page. I have been working with the executive team for about six months – with the old CEO, who was a significant problem. This person has since left, and the new CEO joined this week. I have a full-day workshop with the executive team on Monday, which was planned months ago. The new CEO will be attending, and I would like to know if you have any ideas on how to create a connection in the room/get them all on the same page. I will be meeting with the CEO on Wednesday to update him on the output of a half-day workshop we had last December. At this workshop we used the sailboat exercise to identify the challenges as team were facing and decide on some actions – this worked incredibly well and there is still work to be done which I was going to bring into the workshop next week. With the CEO joining the executive team still want to complete the work, but I am wondering what else we can do to get the team to gel I am just wondering if any of you have some great ideas for icebreakers or activities to help the team get to know each other. Thanks in advance Leanne

@Salah Bouchma I always try to do the sailboat exercise based on a central question. How would you formulate the central question here?

#1 What's the Challenge?
Dear all, I would try to start a weekly board project in which each week a question would be posted and anyone is more than welcomed to leave your feedback below. Each feedback can be seen as a sub-topic that may drive curiosity, interaction, sharing and even help. The following is the episode one and let's how it may flow. #1 What do you currently find most challenging as a facilitator and why is that? The question has a chance to bring together a number of challenges people are facing at this moment /stage on their journey of being a facilitator. People with the same challenge have a chance to know and get together with each other and people with strategies, tactics, resources, stories could step out to share. As the process continues, it could be possible for us to create a collaborative challenge-hack map and we could also have a chance to expect what's coming at the next level / stage of the journey. Feel free to leave your comment below and your interaction with those comments are greatly appreciated.

I sometimes find it difficult to decide what form of workshop to use. As a scrum master, I am used to working with a number of different retrospectives. The step to a different type of workshop is then sometimes a bit big. But then again, I love thinking about the possible outcomes and adapting the workshop accordingly. But am I not being too controlling? And what decision tree do you use to arrive at the right choice of workshop?
