Even good things can derail a day if they don’t have a container.
I went to the gym and let it become a time vortex. I got consumed into my workout and let things slip through the cracks. Ironically, the thing that supported me physically ended up costing me momentum. Still, I’m calling this a successful failure. YAAAY Because I caught myself and I reflected, I see the thing that gets to change and will thrive in a new version of myself tomorrow. The lesson: When I don’t create a container around something I enjoy, I tend to let it expand until the rest of my day gets squeezed out. Awareness unlocked. And the experiment for tomorrow is simple: Structure the day in a way that protects energy and prevents overwhelm. Earlier bedtime tonight + Setting clear containers tomorrow = moving with intention. Growth sometimes looks like productivity. Other times it looks like catching the pattern in the act. 🎯

I love this @Sebastian Schroeder, and funnily enough, I had a very similar recognition & discussion with someone else on Skool about a similar mindset. I said that " I don’t always run by time anymore, as I realised that my productivity came as a result of my mood at the time, rather than the time itself. I find that outlining the task's priority and recognising the time I have in a day mean I still achieve things and accomplish tasks, but I don’t stress as much as I did about the impending expiration of the time allowed to do the task. I have learnt that many things diminish in quality if restricted to a time-based boundary, and whilst I think it’s still important to recognise this measurement, such as in appointments etc, I just choose that in other areas, the time element needs to be flexible. ✨" We are always creating momentum, but the direction is fluid.
Productivity vs Time
How many of you work in 'normal' 9-5 working hours? Does that mean that when the clock hits 5pm your brain switches off and all creativity stops? We live in a world where productivity is defined by how much time and energy to put into something, even if it means you're burning out. This is where ADHD really shines as a super power. Many of us work in irregular times-I personally get sparks of creativity just as I start preparing for bed. Why is that? Because my brain has less pressure and distractions as the night slowly quiets. It has taken a while for me to unlearn that when these boosts of creativity hit, I must follow them. It's in fact the energy that I was pushing the whole day that now has the space to speak and be heard. Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean getting out of bed and 'burning the midnight oil', your body and brain still need the rest. But just like Rick Rubin says, use the energy whenever it comes and follow it until you feel satisfied. You can dive into the details behind the creativity in your 'normal' work day, but don't force yourself to sleep when you're getting fuelled with great ideas before bed. There is so much more I can say on this, but let's use the comments to discuss further x

I don’t run by time anymore @Michaela Juby 🤷🏻‍♂️ I realised that my productivity came as a result of my mood at the time, rather than the time itself. Now it’s more unrestricted routine than regular resistance, and tbh, is working out pretty well. 👍

@Michaela Juby I must stress that this is for me, and I recognise that it may not work for everyone, but I find that outlining the task priority, and recognising the time I have in a day, means that I still achieve things, and accomplish tasks, but I don’t stress as much as I did over the impending expiration of time allowed to do said task. I have learnt that many things diminish in quality if restricted to a time based boundary, and whilst I think it’s still important to recognise this measurement, such as in appointments etc, I just choose that in other areas, the time element needs to be flexible. ✨
Going through it
When life's got you down, what are your go-to ways of getting through it?

💯 Conversation & reflection @Bill Widmer 🫶 It's never nice dealing with something troubling, but I think that getting perspectives, and additional input, often helps to reduce the intensity of the problem, offer additional solutions, and regularly comes with empathy and compassion. Believe that a problem shared is a problem halved, as we all know the "Eat the elephant" metaphor, and here we Eat The Frog with the same intention. It's good to talk. 🫶👏
ADHD Hack: Sensory Anchoring
Did you know that you can create flow states with sensory anchoring? Sensory anchoring means using a specific smell, texture, or sound to train your brain into different modes. For example, I create sensory anchors for getting into "focus mode" when I need to work by keeping a cedar block on my desk. When I'm ready to work, I smell the cedar block, turn on some medieval lo-fi music, set a pomodoro timer, and get to it. Now my brain associates medieval lo-fi and the smell of cedar with "It's time to lock in and get work done!" Have you tried sensory anchoring before?

I'm a huge advocate of this @Bill Widmer 👏 For example, if I'm on a deadline, or I want to bring an extra level of fire and intensity, I have Dragon's Blood incense sticks and a specific spotify playlist that really helps me tune out, and dial in.. 🔥
Want to get sh*t done, for real?
Of course, there is no one solution that works for all. But there is one, that works surprising well for a lot of folks with ADHD. And that is body doubling. If you haven't heard of it so far: you basically meet (virtually or in person doesn't matter) with other people for a work session. Everybody states what they are going to work on and then it's quiet work time, until the session is done (or, if it is a longer session, there might be a short check-in in between). The accountability that comes from having told others what you gonna do, plus knowing that they are there, seeing you, helps incredibly well to make you actually do the work. It's the single most effective strategy for me to get things done. Other strategies are also good, but nothing beats the body doubling for me. And as it happens, this skool community offers exactly that. During the week, there are two time slots for body doubling, called "Eat the Frog" sessions. If you haven't tried it before, don't be shy and join! All you have to do is think about a task you want to work on for the session, and then join and have the group holding you accountable for actually doing it. Just go to the calendar section, there you will find the links to join. I personally am joining the early morning group (although it's afternoon for me), and we have a nice little community vibe going there with @James Sopp, @Venessa Phipps, @Sarah Hyland, @Angela Walker, @Alfred Samuel, and me. Of course, we do not all show up all the time, depending on availability. It's not a *must*, it's a *may*! We would love to have some more people joining! The later session is great, too! Don't be shy, give it a try! Next sessions are on Monday. Add it to your calendar, so you don't miss it. See you there.
