Stem Splitting Question!
I have a few songs I don't have the stems for, only high qual wav. For vocal/instrumental splits, I am using UVR5 (it's free & amazing). But for separating individual instruments or just removing drums etc, does anyone have a solid solution that's worked for them? Or are individual instrumentation splits even necessary? I saw this resource below, but does it mean we need all these stems for every track? " **Stem Naming Convention:** Format: `Artist_SongTitle_StemType_Version` Standard types: - MixMaster - InstOnly (TV Track) - VocUp (Vocals +3dB) - NoLdVoc (No lead vocal) - Drums, Bass, Strings, SFX "

@Glenn Macrae super helpful! Any tool you rec specifically for breaking down a single master wav file into stems? I haven’t found one that passes my ear test without having too many artifacts I have a few songs from way back in the day I did that need stem parsing but don’t have original sessions to break down as suggested.

Oh I think I missed that sorry! You’re saying UVR does that as well. I need to dive into how to use it for that, thanks! Here I come YouTube university lol
Ai/sync
So my biggest hurdle is going to be clearing beats because, Im primarily a hip-hop writer and vocalist on songs. My workflow is much more smooth, and I believe I create better work when I can focus on the writing and production of the mix to arrange the project how I vision it. Which leads me into a question going around in everything at the moment... Is it productive in the sync industry to use AI to assist in making a song? I have researched some different things on my own in regards to this topic and would love your take on this matter. More specifically: if I was to use "Suno, or another platform similar with a (subscription)", to make a wav. file beat, throw that into a daw., track my vocals and mix to the best of my abilities via: beat chops, screws, risers, swells, fx ext., vocals sitting nicely, and panned... Is that acceptable or frowned upon? Even so if I had the ability to separate stems.

What a topic! I think we have to separate utility from creativity. AI in music can be an incredible tool to spark musings, lyrical ideas, rhyme banks, even create new derivitive music that can inspire/trigger some lightbulb moments to use, sample, etc. It can 100% absolutely generate useful and helpful things as part of the creative journey imo. But ultimately, what is it trained on? It's pattern recognition through a massive bank of music/data that has already been created. You're flirting with the past when you use AI, don't you wanna be present & creating the future? 👽 The use-cases of AI outside of music & art are phenomenal, but for us musicians? I'd argue that AI is just regurgitating our collective past, even though it's being remarketed as our future.
