Actor or director?
Here's something that's been on my mind: I recently saw MARTY SUPREME, and whether you like him or not, Timothee Chalamet is an extraordinary actor. If you haven't seen it, it's directed by Josh Safdi who directed UNCUT GEMS. I also recently watched an episode of SOMEBODY FEED PHIL where a friend of his tells a story of how he was once on set watching a taping of EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND and how they did a scene, then right after, Phil (Rosenthal, creator & director of ELR) went individually to each actor and gave them his notes. They went again and the scene was so much better. So my question is, who's more important: actor or director?

@Jason Smith Actually yes...I had a great editor, he worked on The Man of Steel and went on to work for Sony...miss that guy.

@Jason Smith Yeah...my friend said Sony was very hard to be a part of. Security was in his words...worse than a prison...but he loved it....
Hey Writers...Have a question?
I just got a laptop (MacBook Air) after being without for a few years. I've been doing everything on my phone. So being a single father at the age of 54 I'm scraping by. I've been blessed to get a computer. YAaaay!!! I don't have wi-fi because it will cost me around $250 a month (Cox Cable is a rip-off)..just don't have it right now. So the only internet I have is on my phone. I looked up Final Draft 13 and it is pricey. I'm sure there is an older version out there that is reasonable and still accessible/usable. Does anyone know how I can access the software at a reasonable price and how to download it on my laptop? ***I'm still writing, but everything is in note form until then. I soooo much appreciate your feedback. Thanks Donovan

Hello everyone!!
I just thought I’d share what I’ve been up to other than just working my day job 🤣 I’m catching up on posts that i have missed as we speak. Firstly - How is everyone doing? I thought I’d share something different today. I’ve felt a little slump of writing my cyberpunk movie/feature project over the last few days. I’m not sure if it’s whether I’m just stuck. Or not sure how to add my next steps. ( as I’ve written and introduced my main character Billy ). Or if it’s just self doubt. BUT. I have still a lot of creative writing energy. That I want to get out. This morning I heard a song, that was on my playlist for the first ever story I had wrote down. Nearly 2 years ago. I started that at a time of knowing…NOTHING. So, I actually wrote it as a book format. Chapters. Each chapter in my head was an episode. Over the course of the two years I’ve learnt more and more- and started my first draft pilot episode. Now, I LOVE this story. As it came From mostly random thoughts I had and conversations I had with people. Inspired and reimagined by shows I love. Eg. Supernatural and lucifer. Mixed with glitz and glam of Hollywood. As someone who isn’t religious personally. But LOVE when shows explore the cosmic world and supernatural worlds. And well as military style Shows . I always had questions. And imagining “what if’s”. And this is where “ I did it for the devil” came from. So today. I was kind of drawn to this project. A spark. ( I still LOVE LOVE LOVE the cyberpunk project - but today just something in me made me pick my first story back up) So here is a treatment/ outline and also the opening scene of the pilot. ( which I edited and added more of today. ). I still need to expand on places. And figure out the B- line story as currently it’s just an A line story A while ago along side my music playlist for this story. I created a make shift visual trailer using stock videos, to help get the vibe in my head. Honestly this group - I have learnt so so much in such a short time. But even more - I have felt so inspired by all of you guys in this group. So thank you so much 🖤

I know that feeling. I remember in my writing class my teacher told me to take breath and go somewhere to breathe like a park or a place things going on around you. She told me that creativity is everywhere and that you can make a story out of something. To look around and make a story of almost anything....like seeing someone sitting on the grass eating a sandwhich....BOOM! He could've been teleported from another dimension while he was eating his PB&J sandwich as the next contestant for a hunting game...he hehe these were 5 minutes exercises...it helped me a lot to not only write, but to think and work my thought flow. Find inspiration anywhere. Be inspired we are here for you.
Should I Go Back To School For Film Writing?
I’m having such a hard time getting started. I have been a student for many years, so I’m wired through academia. I feel like I don’t know the fundamentals of screenwriting, so I can’t start. Any advice?

I went to film school and the cool part for me in my writing class was learning the structure of a screenplay. It was based off of THE HERO'S JOURNEY and it gave me stability as a writer, but it isn't always the case. Quinten Tarentino is someone who always writes outside the norm and plus he never finished high school. He is a prominent Director and Writer...So it depends on you just like many filmmakers say you don't need schooling, In someway it is true...I've learned more outside of school that they don't teach, but I feel complete because I have a degree...if I could go back in time....I probably wouldn't go to school. It all depends on you. I know I don't have the money for the Premium Membership, but when I do I can tell you that @David Stem has given me a whole new way of writing in one Zoom call. Whether or not you go for schooling or not you will still be a writer in your way possible. I wanted to only be a Film Director, but now writing and creating has changed everything. So good luck and no matter your journey we will be write here with you.
