Actor or director?

Here's something that's been on my mind: I recently saw MARTY SUPREME, and whether you like him or not, Timothee Chalamet is an extraordinary actor. If you haven't seen it, it's directed by Josh Safdi who directed UNCUT GEMS. I also recently watched an episode of SOMEBODY FEED PHIL where a friend of his tells a story of how he was once on set watching a taping of EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND and how they did a scene, then right after, Phil (Rosenthal, creator & director of ELR) went individually to each actor and gave them his notes. They went again and the scene was so much better.

So my question is, who's more important: actor or director?
