Starter: 1 Month Progress Update
I started truly pursuing the business about one month ago. I thought it would be helpful, mainly to myself, to provide little updates each month to show the progress I have made towards landing my first paid job. Here is a quick summary of what I have done in the last month. 1. Registered the business with the State, got EIN - in PA, you can do this online for $125. Takes about 15 minutes. I received an EIN from THE IRS in 3 minutes online as well. 2. Visited local Bobcat dealership to discuss pricing, machine options, and potential CDL issues - I am going with Bobcat because there are three service centers within an hour's drive from my location. 3. Started the process to obtain CDL Class A License - I have arranged with a school to offer an abridged course (40 hours vs. 160 hours) to obtain my Class A. I did find out that most schools only offer the full course so you do have to shop around to find one that will work with your schedule. I can obtain my CDL permit relatively easily on my own, which is an entire week for most schools. 4. Opened Business Checking Account and Business Credit Card (Chase Bank) - I already bank with Chase and this made it the simplest option. Unfortunately, Chase and most credit unions require two years of business history to offer any type of financing. 5. Set Up Online Tools & Presence (Initially) - I created a Jobber account, Google Work Space, business cell phone (Mint Mobile e-SIM), and purchased my domain name from GoDaddy. 6. Logo & Apparel & Business Cards - I used ChatGPT to help create a great logo, and a friend owns a custom apparel company who is going to make me a basic starter kit at cost. The kit I decided on was hoodie, long sleeve, short sleeve, and a hat. I figured that as I start to give on-site estimates for potential clients I want to look professional, uniform. I am ordering my business cards from Vista Print this weekend. 7. Contacted local municipalities - My girlfriend/business partner/cheerleader is a zoning officer and reached out to municipal contacts to understand how they contract out their brush clearing and forestry mulching. It was really informative for us because many of the really small townships in my area don't have the ability to hire full time for the jobs. 8. Business Plan - I wrote out my business plan and operating agreement, including 1-sheet financial estimates. This has helped me talk with banks and lenders effectively because they can quickly see the size, scope, and intention of the business.

@Austin Gray Next step for the online profiles and presence is publishing the website, creating the IG/FB/YT accounts, creating GBP properly, and testing to make sure everything is properly working. By that I mean, when someone requests a quote I get the email notification, go through the process of estimate, approved by client, complete job, ask for review, obtain review, etc. Define marketing Campaign is a little gray right now. I do not know enough about FB targeted ads, so that is one area I need to learn more. We are definitely targeting municipalities for subcontract work, so we will need to create a spreadsheet of names, contact person (ie. Public Works Dept vs something else), preferred method of bid proposal, items needed to bid, etc. Then reverse engineer the cost from there for a direct mail campaign, email campaign, and phone call follow up.

@Frank Steiner MY biggest hurdle with financing is that since I am a start up I cannot get traditional business lending. I have not tried the SBA route yet. I will probably end up doing three individual loans from the dealer for each piece of equipment (truck, trailer, machine). I will be contacting Bobcat Financing this week to see what they would require from me.
Websites
Hey guys, a lot of you have asked me about who to use for websites... Here are my two recommendations: Stryker Digital: https://calendly.com/bodhistryker/onboarding-call (best if you want an SEO optimized website built without the need for making continuous updates) Launch Kits: https://launchkits.com/land-clearing-forestry-mulching-websites/ - (best option if you know you are going to want to make consistent updates with photos / blog posts / change requests ) they offer a reasonable website build upfront cost plus a $99/mo unlimited support & requests option (this is who built the original bear claw site) Tell them you are an OWNR OPS member to make sure to get your OO discount! P.S. yes, they both pay me affiliate commissions if u tell them I sent you... and I have to tell you that in good faith. these are both options I have tried & used for my business and can vouch for the quality & performance of both of their websites As mentioned - Stryker will get you a website right out of the gate but they only provide support/updates for their higher tier monthly SEO packages Launch Kits builds great sites and they are optimized for the guy who is starting out & going to want to make a ton of updates / requests choose accordingly! I started with Launch Kits (when I knew I wanted to make tons of updates in early years) Now I hire Stryker because they build what I need fast both are great options and similar priced for the initial website build

Has anyone utilized the free website that comes with your Jobber account? I would love to use professional services but I am starting out and it's not in the budget just yet.

@Austin Gray Thanks! That's my plan.
Your Website Has One Job
Your website isn’t there to look cool. It has one job: get the phone to ring or book a site visit. If it’s not doing that, it’s broken. We show how to fix this inside OWNR OPS GAS.👉 https://www.skool.com/gas

Welcome to OWNR OPS 🤝 The mission here is simple: Help blue‑collar owner‑operators build 7‑figure businesses with real systems. Not more random tips. Not more motivational quotes. We've built a real operating system that turns Operators into OWNRS — and we're sharing it inside the Classroom Section to help you grow your own business 🤝 I'm going to outline your next steps so you can get the most out of this group based on where you're at right now. 1. What stage of business are you right now? Inside OWNR OPS we split people into three stages: - Starter – guys starting out doing $0–$20k/month - Operator – Doing roughly $20k–$80k/month - OWNR – $80k–$100k+/month with systems This group is built to move people up that ladder. 2. There are two paths inside this group If you’re a Starter (0–$20k/month): Your job is to use the Free Classroom Trainings to build a solid base. Go to the Classroom and complete OPS Kickstarter. This will help you: ✅ Dial in your pricing ✅ Set up your basic lead gen system ✅ Start closing jobs ✅ Build your basic weekly rhythm Use the tools and trainings in here to get yourself into that $20k–$40k/month Operator band. Once you’re there, we can talk about Accelerator. If you’re an Operator ($20k–$80k/month): This is who OPS Accelerator is built for. Go to the OPS Accelerator – Info lesson in the Classroom. I’ll walk you through the 16‑week implementation plan to install the OWNR Operating System in your business. If it sounds like what you need, fill out the application linked under that lesson or click here ➡️ https://start.ownrops.com OPS Accelerator is a paid, high‑touch program for Operators who are serious about moving toward 7 Figures Annually (or $80k–$100k+ months during busy season) with real systems and support. What to do right now: - Pick your stage (honestly) in the poll below: Starter, Operator, or OWNR - Follow the path above. - Use the free trainings, tools, and community. - When you’re ready for help building the full OWNR system, apply for OPS Accelerator

Hi! I am Brian, owner operator of BLK Bear Land Services. I am literally just starting out as of this month. I am located in SE PA. I offer brush clearing, fence and field management, forestry mulching, undergrowth management, and trail maintenance. The help and guidance I am seeking is how to start right as a part time operation so that I am not back tracking at the end of the year. I am very efficient, SOP oriented, so I can help create SOPs and workflows for others to become more efficient at running.
what's your goal in 2026?
just got back from visiting my VIP client in Austin, TX & I'm FIRED UP! we filmed more FB ads on site, met the crews in person, saw the new Cat 285 & Fecon Mulcher, worked on strategy with ops manager, & crushed some good BBQ 🤪 back in May, another entrepreneur hired me to build a land clearing business for him they'll do over $90M this year in his other business but he wanted in the trades why? he sees the writing on the wall AI is taking over all the tech jobs I've said it before & I'll say it again... Local, blue collar service businesses are the best business opportunity of our generation (and the most AI proof) He saw what I built in Bear Claw and he wanted the exact same thing for himself... named my price he agreed 6 months later we're hitting $150k+ months how? simple using the same operating systems that I built to grow Bear Claw with Last month, I shared this Blue Collar Growth System with 18 other guys inside an intensive 4 Week Growth Sprint we covered how to: 1. get leads 2. win jobs 3. implement scalable operating systems and the guys crushed it @Blake Trant won his first $5k forestry mulching job before finishing the sprint @Trevor Hanosh booked $9k worth of Fire Mitigation jobs after finishing @Doug ODell got his first snow plow clients it's the same process that @Colby McArthur has used to go from $30k in his bank to over $200k I've got an exciting announcement to make soon for the New Year but first, I've got a question for you... what are your goals for 2026?
