Looking for unique summer scents
I just rearranged my bottles this weekend trying to go cold weather frags on the left, year rounds in the middle and warm weather on the right. After I did this and looked it over I realized my collection breaks down like this: Cooler weather - 40%, Year round - 40%, Warmer - 20%. My decants kind of break down the same way. This got me thinking that most summer frags never really grabbed me - they either bore me with their generic "fresh and/or citrusy" notes (like Eros Energy, AdG), or their performance on me is abysmal (Light Blue, Man Eau Fraiche) . I usually wear my year-rounders in the warm weather. Realized I'm looking for something different for summer. The ones I do have full bottles of are Vulcan Feu, L'eau D'Issey, AP Marwa, Prada L'Homme to name a few. So basically this post is looking for recommendations for summer/high heat frags that are a little "left of center" that last.

13 degrees today with a -4 windchill so I went with something deep and smooth and aromatic to cut through the cold. (Not that I'm going outside much today) Such a great one for the price.

Post 2: Situational Scent
Counting with our Rapid Fire exercise. Here are six quick questions to let us know what you would wear in different scenarios. 1. Your #1 "First Date" scent? 2. What’s your "White T-Shirt" fragrance (easy, casual, everyday)? 3. The best scent for a summer heatwave? 4. Your "Power Scent" for a big meeting or interview? 5. What do you wear to bed? (Or is that weird?) 6. What do you grab when you’re on vacation ?

Moving Past "that smells good" Level
I'd like to get some advice from the experienced members of this group. A recent comment from Derek Cook about wanting to move beyond the "that smells good" level of fragrance appreciation really resonated with me. My collection is nearing 100 bottles, but I realize I haven't moved past that point either. For those of you who have, how did you make that transition? I'd love to hear your thoughts and any tips you have for developing a more nuanced understanding of fragrances. Thanks in advance.

To me the "Does it smell good" question is the prime factor in choosing a fragrance. Do I appreciate a well blended, out of the ordinary, unique ingredients fragrance? Sure do. But it all boils down to "Does it smell good?" If I have to be challenged by a fragrance and figure out if I actually like it or not - I probably don't. The same goes for me with watches and wines and whiskeys. It's all very nuanced but it all comes down to its primary function. Fragrances - do they smell good? Watches - does it tell time accurately? Any type of food or spirit - does it taste good? If other people are into the nuance - more power to them, that's awesome. There are many ways to enjoy any hobby.

Mine is buying too many M.E. cheapies. When you realize not buying a few of them would equal a bottle of something better.
