Day 9 of our 21 Day Movement Challenge
We are just shy of the halfway mark and we are very interested to know who is still on track to hit the goal of 21 days straight? And also if anyone has any wins to share from the last 9 days? So far we've had @Kristin Wareing working on her B.Ball skills while the kids ride bikes in the street, @Emma Ryan-Reid dancing around the kitchen at dinner time and @Franca Sala Tenna refusing to leave her bedroom each morning until she's done a morning practise :)

@Glenn Robson i think it's juggling many priorities and perfectionism... like I don't start until I've got all the other shoulds off my plate, and by then the day is done...

I've been trying to use 'waiting around' snacks of time to add some extra movement. Today was cool, kids were riding bikes up and down the street, so I grabbed the basketball and played around with bouncy, squaty legs for about 15 mins. Yesterday while watching Rems soccer I played with some squats and hangs. Just little bits but more often.

New years resolutions and self belief bricks...
Merry Christmas, Everyone! 🎄 As we near the end of the year, I’ve found myself reminiscing about the ups and downs, the lessons learned, and all the moments that made 2024 what it was. And, as it always does at this time of year, my mind started wandering toward the year ahead. Which of course got me thinking about... New Year’s Resolutions. 😅 So, I’d love to throw a couple of questions your way and share a little thought on self-belief that’s been on my mind. Question 1: Do you set New Year's resolutions? If yes, do you stick with them or change them halfway through the year? If no, why don't you? I know some people swear by them, while others think they’re a waste of time. Personally, I’m curious to hear what your approach is! Is it a tradition, or just another reason to reset? A Little Thought on Self-Belief 💡: Self-belief is built brick by brick. It’s built by doing what you said you were going to do, even when it’s hard. It’s built by making promises to yourself, and following through on them. On the flip side, self-doubt is built by doing the opposite: by letting yourself down. So here’s the thing — don’t set yourself up with huge, overwhelming goals that feel impossible from the start. That only leads to frustration and, eventually, a house of doubt. Instead, start small. Ask yourself: What’s one thing you KNOW you can commit to? Even if it’s tiny. Maybe it’s getting 10 minutes of exercise a day, reading one page of a book, or simply drinking more water. Whatever it is, make a promise to yourself — and follow through. Once you’ve mastered that small commitment, you can stretch the goal a little more, shift the target, and keep building on that foundation. But start where it’s achievable. What’s one small, realistic goal you could commit to for 2025? Maybe something simple that feels doable, even on the busiest of days? What is your self belief brick so to speak I’d love to hear your thoughts and start a conversation about how we can approach the new year in a way that actually sets us up for success — and, more importantly, confidence in ourselves.

Great thread. 👍🏻 I don't really set them, not in a big way. But I do find it a good time of year for a clean out of clutter - physical and mental. The slower pace and warm, sunny days help to remind me of the things I enjoy doing, and I'm always left feeling that I want to make more space throughout the year for those things. I don't do well with big goals, I just always feel like I'm failing and so throw them out the window at the first opportunity. I like Chloe's idea of the 25 in 25, but making them the small and measurable ones seems kinder to myself. Sophia's notion of reflection and gratitude is good too.

@Emma Robson I love that framework!
Happy Friday - unexpected wins
Sometimes we do things and get unexpected outcomes, pleasantly surprised by changes. Maybe we weren’t seeking these things specifically, or perhaps we were caught up searching for a different result that we were blindsided. Either way, it’s a lovely thing and it feeds the trust in the human body being a complex system. An example for me this week, a positive surprising result; since I stopped teaching regular classes and face to face PT my daily movement has significantly decreased in terms of variety and quality. I still move all day with the kids but it’s not intentional. Previously I might demonstrate foot rooting exercises 3-4x per day. I would hang regularly throughout the day. I would do reps of all types of exercises.. so my body felt great before I even put any time aside for my training. Nowadays that’s a different story. But this week, I got stuck into some jobs I’ve been putting off. Weeding my garden specifically. I got time in the sunshine, barefoot in nature, the kids helped fill the wheel barrow and dig around, my toes, feet and ankles got amazingly stimulated and I even got a sweat on which felt great. I had been a bit down because I haven’t found as much time to train as I would like to, but by taking on this ‘chore’ I was pleasantly surprised by how good my body felt. I was moving through squat, fisherman squats, and various low gait positions for a couple of hours, 3 days in a row. The only benefit to procrastinating this job so long was that I finally did it on the first days of spring when the sunshine was so glorious (hello Vitamin D ☀️). A few things I did to make this job nourishing to the body… I used both hands to pull weeds, I raked on both sides of my body, I squatted with flat feet, sometimes on the balls of my feet, and moved into fisherman squat regularly. I stood up from time to time when the legs needed a rest and then got straight back to work. When lifting the wheelbarrow to the greens bin I used my whole body. At the end of the night I lied down in the lounge room and did some thoracic rotation and rolling over the basketball. 💫

I so relate to this ‘win’ Emma. The last couple of weeks has been tough and I was feeling like I’d fallen ‘off the Groundwork Wagon’ for sure. But yesterday was a beautiful day and I chose to start the overwhelming task of cleaning up the garden after our renovation. Similar to your observation, I was more intentional about how I moved around to pull weeds and shovel dirt. The sunshine and time outside with the dogs company, Remy riding his bike up and down the street was so nice. Body feels a bit sore, but in good places. The normal lower back pain that is triggered by weeding seems to have resolved quicker. Feeling more positive today than I have in a couple of weeks. I’ll take it.
