ROTW (Riff Of The Week) 5/4/26
This week we're going into pull off's and a weird timing to make you sound like a pro player. Find your way into the ROTW by heading to our "Classroom" section - or by clicking this link here to get started. https://www.skool.com/intermediate-guitar/classroom/8fea4915?md=aaac94a57ae44cd3b1cf5640e3aa7834 It's not flashy or iconic. But if you've been looking for something to loosen up your fretting hand and get used to moving between two-note ideas inside a chord, this is the one to play with this week. Let us know what you think by recording yourself giving this a try, and don't be worried about what anyone else has to say! We'll chat about Not a part of the group yet? Great workout, fingers and wrist. Why I'm playing on electric guitar..thanks for the heads up also.
So how is everyone feeling on their instrument today?
I'm feeling pretty good where I'm at today, tomorrow might be a different story. That's kind of the thing when it comes to creative outlets, ya know? Some days I feel like I can just fly all over without thinking about it, and others, man, I struggle to play a clean major scale. I think the main things to remember as we get to grips with our instrument, are... 1. That we are only human and mistakes are bound to happen 2. There's always going to be good days and bad days. We are always going to be our own worst critic and we are always going to be aware of every mistake and imperfection in our playing. It's important to be able to let that roll off our backs and not let it bring us down. Keep going on the bad days because better days are always ahead. So where are you at today with your guitar? A good day or a lousy one? What's holding you back and if you could change one thing today about your playing, what would that be? Lemme know, You've got this. -Ben P.S. Watch me get my butt kicked by "Reelin in the Years" by Steely Dan.

Ben, good one for riff of the week? Cheers
Endless Chord Progressions
This one's in D minor and it's a weekend ear-worm. This piece is called... "Lick My Love Pump" (yes, like the “Spinal Tap” line - if you haven't seen that movie, are you really a musician?) Quick chord notes if you want them: Dm — Bb — F — A7 Dm — pointer on the 1st fret of the high E, ring finger on the 3rd fret of the B, middle on the 2nd fret of the G. You can add the extra finger up top for a fuller voicing or leave it off, either works. Bb — basically your A shape slid up to the 4th fret. Three fingers, same shape, new home. F — skip the full barre. I just play the bottom two notes of the shape and let the high E ring open. Fuller than you'd think, way easier on the hand. A7 — your full A shape minus the middle finger. That's it. The numbers nerds in the room: it's a i — VI — III — V7. Once you get the changes under your fingers, mess with it. Strum it straight, arpeggiate it, slow it down, double the tempo. I think you'll find yourself coming back to this one more than once. Drop your recording below… We want to hear what you do with it. Chord Progression of the Week! (Let me see you play it!)
This weeks chord progression has a pretty chill vibe. It consists of three chords, that, while they sound complicated, they are only so in name. You'll need a Dmaj7sus2, a Cmaj7sus2, and finally an Amaj7sus2. I'll show you in the video how to play them so don't stress. Since these chords are located right on top of their respective scales, you'll have a lot of room for accents over them. If you choose to play some lead over these, you'll want A Major over the Dmaj7sus2 and the Amaj7sus2. Over the Cmaj7sus2 you're going to want to swap to A Dorian/Minor Pentatonic. Yup, there's modal interchange in here! I can't help it, it just sounds so good! Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend! Next week is Mike's turn! -Ben

So, I want your help! Come Vote!!!
Hey everyone! Since, this is Mike's week coming up, I'm going to have some time to work on more of our classroom lessons. I have a guitar setup 101 video coming up here soon, and a few other ideas in the works as well, but wanted to see what everyone is most looking forward to. I'm starting with more generalized things for now, and later on in the future I can venture into more specialized and advanced content as the community grows, makes their voices heard, and initial boxes get checked! For now though, what are you wanting to see first? Keep in mind, eventually I will cover all of this! I'll be breaking these up into two different categories, Theory, and Technique, along with some of my ideas within each category. If you have anything outside of these, please leave your ideas in the comments! I'd love to see what everyone is wanting first from the community! I can't wait to see what you're looking for, lemme know! -Ben P.S. I'll be leaving this up for a little while to give everyone a chance to vote!
