The drama triangle is a social model of human interaction involving a Victim, Persecutor and Rescuer.
It describes an often destructive cycle, where individuals move between these roles - escalating conflict and eroding psychological safety.
Sometimes it's about understanding where you are in the triangle...
Victim: This role is characterised by a sense of helplessness and a feeling of being at the mercy of external forces or people. Victims often feel powerless to change their circumstances and look for someone else to save them.
Persecutor: This role is defined by blaming and controlling others. Persecutors may act out of anger or a desire to dominate a situation.
Rescuer: This role is characterised by the desire to be helpful, but it often stems from a need to be needed rather than from a healthy desire to empower others. Rescuers may enable the victim's behavior and end up feeling drained
Want to break the cycle? You can do that by flipping roles into more empowering ones like Creator, Challenger and Coach.
I'll talk about them tomorrow.
Any of these sound familiar to you?
