Planing End Grain Cutting Boards
End grain cutting board, made of walnut, oak and maple. The challenge with end grain, is not destroying it when you are planing. This is about the hardest wood you can run through a planer. It also works out in that the janka hardness of all three woods is similar. Anything harder needs to be done with a router and a router sled. I once tried to run a checker board through my planer, that was made of ebony and some light colored wood. It self-destructed, coming out in small pieces.
