💪 What’s the First Thing You Built That Made You Proud?
I'll be the first to start: I felt comfortable with rough carpintry, but never did "woodworking." Our first granddaughter was on the way, and I wanted to build something for them. They asked for a changing table. I bought the would (ash), and it sat for months. I was petrified about the need for exact measurements and precision. With support and encouragement from a friend, I got started. It wasn't perfect: the deesign used stock that was too thick. and the table weighs a ton; miter joints weren't precise. But I was happy with the result (and more importantly they were), and I became hooked.....

Most Underrated Tool
The most underrated tool in my shop is my hand plane. It needs a tune-up, and I just haven't taken the time to fix it.

My most underrated tool is the silicone kitchen baster I use to apply glue. As good as any "glue specific" brush that is sold, and a fraction of the cost (got a set of 5)
🌲 What’s the Most Frustrating Wood You’ve Ever Worked With? (Win $100 Gift Card!)
Some woods test your patience more than your tools. Tear-out, splinters, dull blades — the works. Which wood gave you the biggest headache, and why? I could echo many of these, but I'll add a new one Ipe. What I usually hear is the hardness being rough on blades. That went ok for me, but every time I tried screwing into the end grain, it would split

@Michael Schwartz I've only done straight cuts on zebrawood (both rip and crosscut) and drilled holes in it with a forstner bit, and I haven't had major problems
🧠 What’s the One Project You Keep Saying You’ll Build ‘Someday’? (Win $100 Gift Card!)
Every woodworker has that dream build — a workbench upgrade, a rocking chair, maybe even a canoe. You’ve got the plans, maybe even the wood… but somehow “someday” keeps getting pushed back. What’s that project you can’t stop thinking about but haven’t started yet? 🏆 Prize: $100 Sawinery Gift Card (maybe this will be the nudge to finally start!) 📅 Winner announced on December 8! 📍 Open to U.S. customers only (for now). We’re working on making them available in more locations soon!

For me it's a bed. I reeeaaally want to build one. I have lots of plans. I've offered to build , without success, to each of the three kids - either for them or the grandkids. No takers. Nor have I had a client approach me to build one. I can do rustic, traditional, mission, you name it. Any takers? 🤣
💸 What’s the Most Expensive Mistake You’ve Made in Woodworking? (Win $100 Gift Card!)
We’ve all had one. That project that went sideways, and took a chunk of our wallet with it. Maybe you miscut an entire sheet of walnut or used the wrong finish on a custom build. Confession time: what’s the priciest woodworking lesson you’ve ever learned? 🏆 Prize: $100 Sawinery Gift Card (to ease the sting a little 😉) 📅 Winner announced on December 1! 📍 Open to U.S. customers only (for now). We’re working on making them available in more locations soon!

Man, I feel like I have done everything listed so far - bought cheap tools, only to replace; bought unnecessary tools, cuz they seemed like a good idea; ruined expensive wood by mis-measuring..... So, just to add something that hasn't been said and is the most recent: start with what was going to be 2 cutting boards, with curved cuts and inlays (tape two together, cut curves, and "swap" the pieces. One board walnut; one board hard maple). Bandsaw blade wasn't sufficiently tight, so while piece A matched pice B of each board, if I swapped them, they didn't match up. I tried to salvage by gluing the boards back together, with the plan of cutting them into strips and doing an end grain chess board. Well, didn't rip the right width, so had even number of strips (can't alnernate as checkerboard) and too narrow with an even number......so, decided to make a chaos board. Had it all glued up and cleaning up with router sled. Board wasn't sufficiently secured and router bit caught an edge, tore out a corner, and flung the board. It was trash. The cost wasn't that high, but the loss of time was
