How to flatten a board without a planer - any methods you can suggest?

Hello, can you recommend some tips on how to flatten a board without a planer?

I'm working on a project for the grandkids, I want to make them each a personalized toy box. My problem is that some of the boards I've got on hand aren't exactly flat. But I don't have a fancy planer in my workshop, so I was wondering if there's another way I can solve the problem. I'm not good with hand planers, but maybe you can suggest another method I can try.
