Weekly Watch Lover Member Shoutouts ⌚️
Gentlemen, here are a few standout posts from the Watch Lover community this week. 👏 Big shoutout to @Darren Poesel for "Rookie Mistake !" — the hilarious and all-too-relatable story of getting his wife hooked on mechanical watches, only for her to ask him if he saw anything he liked. Darren's tale of rapidly justifying a purchase is marriage and watch collecting in perfect, comedic harmony. Post: https://www.skool.com/watch-lover/rookie-mistake 👏 Shoutout to @Jeffrey Plotka for "My New Addition" — the story of a six-month search for an American-made watch that spoke to him, culminating in a proud new acquisition. Jeffrey's passion for craftsmanship and his willingness to share the full journey made this a standout read. Post: https://www.skool.com/watch-lover/my-new-addition 👏 Shoutout to @Alexandr Putyatinskiy for "Controvercials on - Luminox Watch Atacama Field 1960 Black XL.1961" — diving into a debate-worthy piece and getting the community talking. Bold watch choices make for the best discussions, and Alexandr brought exactly that energy. Franz's willingness to make the case for vintage quartz is exactly the kind of thoughtful contrarianism that elevates our watch conversations. RGM/Teddy Day #4 - How it wears
A few people have asked how the watch actually wears, now that I’ve had some time with it. Honestly, this may be my favorite surprise. On paper, a 39mm dress watch sounds fairly conventional, but on the wrist it has a real presence without ever feeling oversized. The weight is just about perfect—substantial enough that you know you’re wearing a well-made mechanical watch, but light enough that it disappears after a few minutes. It never feels top-heavy or bulky. The case proportions are excellent. The relatively thin mid-case, gently curved lugs, and compact lug-to-lug length let it hug the wrist naturally. It slides under a shirt cuff easily but still has enough visual presence to stand on its own with more casual attire. The Jean Rousseau strap deserves a lot of credit as well. It’s one of the most comfortable factory straps I’ve owned. It’s supple right out of the box, conforms to the wrist quickly, and, most importantly, it doesn’t force the watch to ride up onto my wrist bone like some stiffer alligator straps do. The watch stays centered throughout the day without constantly needing to be adjusted. The balance of the watch is what impresses me most. The combination of the case, the movement, and the strap makes it feel incredibly well sorted. Nothing about it is trying too hard. It simply feels like a watch that was designed to be worn, not just admired. After a few days on the wrist, I can honestly say the wearing experience has exceeded my expectations. The craftsmanship drew me to the watch initially, but it’s the comfort and balance that have kept me reaching for it every morning. It’s going to be hard to out this one away. 😢
