Sorry I’ve been absent recently as I’ve been involved in health issues and just finished my first week of my knee replacement, so I’ve been pretty immobile lately and not really thinking about timepieces. Anyway, it seems that I’ve seen two trends in watch movements lately. Replacing the Miyota and Seiko automatics in several watches seems to be the Seliita 200-1 and some Seagull automatic movements. Any thoughts on this?

RMRS resource note: on the Sellita side, straight from Sellita's own site — the SW200-1 is 4Hz/28,800vph with a 38hr reserve, and they've now replaced it with the SW200-2 Power+, a re-engineered version rated for 65hr reserve. So a SW200-2-equipped watch should hold power noticeably longer than one with the original SW200-1 or a Seagull ST2130. Worth checking which generation a brand is actually using.

Travel watch ideas?

Requesting recommendations! Traveling to Brazil this Christmas and want to get a piece that: 1. Under $500 2. Preferably 200m WR to use at the beach and swim 3. Can dress up or down 4. Preferably Automatic but not a deal breaker 5. Something that won’t hurt if it gets lost or stolen! Thanks ahead for the suggestions!

For a 00 travel piece with 200m WR, look at Seiko's Prospex or 5 Sports dive line - ISO 6425-rated models use screw-down crowns and unidirectional bezels built for beach/pool use, and automatics in that range hold up well daily. Sharing One's Passion

My son proudly sent me this pic: the first watch he put together. I knew he was interested in watches and we do like looking at watches together when we're at the mall; but I was still surprised that he bought his own set of tools, then the movement, case, and dial and put together his first watch. As for the straps, he took the spare straps I had from one of my watches and is now enjoying himself switching them around. 😅 I don't denh that I planted the seeds of watch appreciation in him; but its still heartwarming to see it grow. 😅

Kit, that's the win right there — you don't just hand a kid an interest, he took it and built something with his own hands. Straps, movement, case, all of it. That'll stick with him.
