Visitors at home

My dog Winnie is very intense when people come over. We have tried putting her in the crate in a bedroom with a lick mat, and she just barks in there persistently for 15+ minutes and seems stressed. Is this ok? She doesn’t seem to calm down and when we try to release her she just goes back to 100% intensity. Any tips or should we just persevere? She is good in her crate when it’s just us at home and overnight now.
