Coach Melanie broke down how most of us are breathing wrong during our runs—shallow chest breathing, holding our breath during hard efforts, and carrying way too much tension in our upper bodies. The good news? We don't need stronger lungs, we just need better breathing habits.
We learned practical techniques like:
  • Diaphragmatic breathing and how to actually DO it
  • How posture impacts your breathing efficiency
  • Breathing rhythms for different running intensities (2-to-2, 3-to-3 patterns)
  • Using your breath as an early warning system before your legs give out
  • Strategies for hills and tough sections
  • How to prevent and deal with side stitches
  • A pre-run breathing routine you can start using immediately
Coach Melanie even led us through hands-on exercises so we could feel the difference between effective and ineffective breathing patterns. Plus, she's sharing a PDF with drills we can practice!
The best part? She emphasized making small, incremental changes on easy runs first—no overwhelming overhauls needed.
