Surface modeling practice

So after completing the surface modeling course I put what I learned to test and came up with this shape. Saw this on YouTube and the guy who did it made use of Xnurbs, though it seemed pretty easy but for me I did the manual way. Took some time to get the hook shape right.

Have to ask, is it worth investing $300 for Xnurbs or not?
