Update on Anthology Submissions & Strategy Tips
Hey everyone! I’m still finalizing the Google Forms for the anthology submissions. I’ll post the links as soon as they are ready. In the meantime, I wanted to give you a few things to think about while you prepare: 1. Keeping It Accessible (Entry Fees) We don't want money to be the reason you don't submit. To help with that, we offer a significant discount on editing services for anthology stories. In that same spirit, we are keeping entry fees as low as possible. • Suggested Fee: $20 per story (for standard length, non-flash anthologies). • Minimum Fee: $5. Note: Entry fees are non-refundable. If you are able to pay more than the suggested amount, it helps balance out those who can only pay the minimum. We appreciate your support in making this accessible for everyone! 2. Strategy: Connect Your Worlds Use your anthology submission as a bridge to your other work! This is a perfect opportunity to write: • A lead-in to one of your existing book series. • A side character's origin story. • A prequel to a larger project. Why? Because every participating author gets an Author Page in the anthology. If readers love your short story, you can use that page to tell them exactly where to go to read more. Make sure your story is complete (with an ending!), but let it serve as an invitation to your universe. Any questions? Amber and Tirzah are happy to help.
🐺 Call for Submissions: Marked by the Wolf 🐺
I am thrilled to announce the first installment in our Fairytale Reimagined series, now part of The Writer's Block Anthologies: Marked by the Wolf. The Theme This anthology is a loose Little Red Riding Hood retelling. It is open to most genres as long as your story fits the theme. Your story can feature traditional wolves, wolf shifters, or even a "wolf-like" individual—it just needs to revolve around a character who could be considered a "wolf." Rolling Submission Model We are moving away from fixed deadlines. This anthology will remain open for submissions until it is officially "Full." A collection is considered full when: - At least 10 authors have submitted accepted stories. - A minimum of 100,000 total words has been reached. Note on Selection: To ensure a high-quality reading experience, submission does not guarantee acceptance. The Writer's Block reserves the right to decline stories that do not meet our quality standards or thematic requirements. Submission Details - Word Count: 5,000–25,000 words. - Status: Currently OPEN for submissions. - Publication Date: Targeted for approximately 30 days after the anthology is "Full." Professional Standards & Author Services To be considered for publication, all stories must be professionally edited. If you need assistance preparing your manuscript, The Writer's Block Editing Team offers the following services: - Beta Reading: $.005/word (for early feedback to help you shape your story). - Professional Editing: $.01/word. Please note: Utilizing our editing services improves your manuscript but does not automatically guarantee acceptance into the anthology. Rights, Royalties, & Kickstarter Editions - Rights: Authors grant non-exclusive rights to include the story in the anthology. - Royalties: Paid via Draft2Digital royalty split. All contributors must have a Draft2Digital account. - Special Editions: The Writer's Block reserves the right to create Kickstarter editions. - Profits fund professional artwork, organizers, and advertisement costs. - Authors receive the exclusive benefit of being able to purchase these special editions as author copies at cost.

🍷 Call for Submissions: A Simple Red (Working Title) 🍷
I am thrilled to announce the third installment in The Writer's Block Anthologies: A Simple Red. Based on the striking cover design, we’ll be holding a community vote soon to decide if this title stays or if we choose a new one together! The Theme This is a vampire-based anthology. We are looking for stories where vampires—or the lore surrounding them—play a significant and central role. Whether your take is gothic, modern, romantic, or horrific, your submission must revolve around these creatures of the night. Rolling Submission Model This anthology will remain open for submissions until it is officially "Full." A collection is considered full when: - At least 10 authors have submitted accepted stories. - A minimum of 100,000 total words has been reached. 👁️ Call for Submissions: Bloodshot (Working Title) 👁️
I am thrilled to announce the next installment in The Writer's Block Anthologies. We are currently using the working title Bloodshot, but we want you involved in the creative process! We’ll be holding a vote in the near future to let our authors and community help decide the final title for this collection. The Theme This anthology is dedicated to the stories that keep you up at night. We are looking for flash fiction that is scary, suspenseful, or deeply disturbing—the kind of tales that linger long after the lights go out. With the "unblinking eye" as our inspiration, we want punchy, high-impact narratives that get straight to the marrow of fear and unease.
