Is Reading Books Helpful While Writing? ✍️
I know that some people have mixed feelings on this since they may feel that their voice is being overshadowed by the work they have been reading.
Instead of using their personal writing style, they end up copying the style that the author writes in the book that they are reading. 📖
What are your thoughts?
Do you think it's beneficial to read books while you are writing? ✍️
If so, should we read books that are similar to the topic or genre that we are writing in?
Or should it be something to help us in different ways, such as a self help book? 📕
Personally I think this depends solely on the individual. There have been times where I couldn't read other books while writing since I knew that I would try to replicate the writing style.
However, as of now and sometimes in the past, I've read books on the side while writing.
As I'm writing my Fantasy trilogy book series, I'm reading some books on the side. However, the books that I'm reading have nothing to do with my genre, or topic. One is focused on writing techniques, while another I'm reading is more for understanding the stock market.
