The 15-Minute Scene
Today’s challenge is simple. Set a timer for 15 minutes. ⏲️ Write a scene where something small changes. Examples: ⭐️ a character receives unexpected news ⭐️ someone notices something strange ⭐️ a conversation takes an unexpected turn Fifteen minutes. No editing. Just forward motion. Many professional writers use short writing bursts like this to break resistance. Sometimes the scene surprises you. Sometimes it becomes a piece of the book.📕 Either way, you practiced movement. If you want, share your scene below. 👇

@Dani Rosenblad James As I wrote the scene a whole story/book ran through my thoughts.
Writing At The Gym
Do you ever go to the gym and really push yourself? Maybe you’re lifting weights and you’ve got one more set. Or you’re on the treadmill and there’s half a mile left. There’s a moment where I pause, tighten my resolve, take a breath, and jump back into the exercise. Writing feels a lot like that to me. Last year I wrote four books in one big push. By the end of it, my brain felt completely fried, so the past few months have mostly been recovery. But lately I’ve started to feel that same sensation again. The breath before the next set. Not a frantic sprint. Just that quiet moment where I know it’s time to step back up to the bar. For me, the smaller pieces along the way, essays, posts, conversations, are like the lighter sets that keep the muscles warm between the heavy lifts. So I’m curious where you are right now - where are you in your writing gym? Are you in the middle of a heavy push? Catching your breath between sets? Or taking a recovery day before the next one? Or…are you looking at your running shoes and gym membership and thinking, “Gosh, I need to get back in there”?

@Shawn Helgerson & @Dani Rosenblad James Right now I put myself at the "Pause to catch my breath betweensers" stage. Currently, in the process of fine-tuning a few items to add into my writing, so I can push very hard in the next 11 months. The projects will be produced and pushed out during the 11 month period. With the ernest intent to be able to expand my books/projects to a wider audience.

Does a Rose by Any Other Name Smell as Sweet?
To pen name, or not to pen name.... That is the question. When I was a practicing Christian, I hesitated to write the books I wanted to write because I was afraid they wouldn't please Jesus or Christians. When I was more secular and working on my MFA, I had to submit my manuscript to a sensitivity board and so dropped from the program. In both cases, I was refusing to play by the rules of my chosen establishment and ironically censoring myself. I may be answering my own question here, but... The books I want to write include erotica - not straight smut novels, but as part of the story. I've always wanted to be blunt and honest about character's lives including good sex, bad sex, and no sex. It's a huge part of a character's internal and external life and it feels like cheating to skip or insinuate it. But... And here's my showing my insecurity... Do I want to publish this under my own name? I've thought about writing under the pen name Vivienne Cross - a mysterious author who writes literary erotica and never gives interviews. Or...I could just slap my own name on it and call it what it is. Thoughts?

@Shawn Helgerson Understandable, but once you spend the time to mull over names...you might find one that fits. What do you feel would be more to your liking? I always liked to be able to use the place I was born, town or state...like John Griffith Chaney or as he was better known as....Jack London! Plus, it will depend on what you write... Say, romance or erotica might not fit with Sean Murdock....but if you wrote a Spy novel, in my eyes, Sean Murdock would be a great name. Pen names would be dependent on many factors.... Like Theodor Geisel...Better know as Dr. Seuss! Do you know why he went by Dr. Seuss? Two factors: Getting in trouble in college in 1925 ~ Prohibition Law violation ( Drinking gin, and not being able to contribute or being Editor to Dartmouth College's humor magazine.) He started submitting articles secretly with his middle name and mother's maiden name...Seuss. Then later on, as a nod towards his father, he added the "Dr." portion whom he hoped Theo would practice medicine. He also used Theo LeSieg, for books he wrote but did not illustrate himself. Other names he used: ~ Rosetta Stone: Used this pen name to honor his second wife, in 1975 penning: Little Bug Went Ka-Choo!! ~ Theophrastus Seuss: An early variation for his time as a cartoonist in the 1920's. (Sorry, just a big fan of Dr. Seuss.) For you, I would have fun with it and just do what fits right! I. P. Freely ~ Signing out!!!!

@Dani Rosenblad James A couple of fun facts alway helps a day go smoothly! Plus, he did so much more. The times were different and people saw much more of books than today. Another Author I enjoy is James Patterson, when I was in junior high when he released a book, the amount of fanfare was huge. Now two days...bam! Then people move on...Sad.
