Standing on the shoulders of others
Perspective is borrowed before it’s learned.
I remember a friend sharing with me that all creativity is a mining operation. With one things being derivative of the last. That things we are into now are influenced directly or indirectly by things that came before. In my life I have realized that this applies to science, family, relationships. Good or bad we are all relying on those who came before us and those who are around us for good ideas. I have had to come to that conclusion for myself and it was hard because I had absorbed a lot of the idea that I had to do everything on my own to be a "real adult". This idea was exhausting. I am so glad for my family and friends who helped me come out of this. It took me a long time to realize that my belief about “doing everything on my own” wasn’t wisdom it was a borrowed perspective I hadn’t examined yet.
What’s something you were taught about being an adult that you’re starting to question and who or what helped you see it differently?
