Accidental clickbait
One of our videos started getting picked up by external traffic for the wrong reasons. We semi-expected it from the title, but the analytics data is particularly interesting.
A curious feature of peoples psychology, but it's so interesting to see that people were looking for a SPECIFIC thing, and as soon as we said in the video that we said that we would NOT be showing it, people leave sharply.
Lessons:
  • This wasn't really meant to be a bait and switch, BUT it shows that to maintain viewers, you have to deliver what they think they're searching for. As Andrew says, this is why MrBeast does so well. Absolutely mad titles, but then actually delivers on them.
  • This didn't convert at ALL to subscribers, retained viewers or conversion.
  • There are some things you shouldn't sink to the level of posting for the sake of views.
