I wrote a drumline piece a few months ago and decided to alter it in response to a recent Taxi brief for 'Sports Percussion', which was due Friday Mar 13. Coincidentally, I had a scheduled session with Glenn on Friday also, and though he had already heard this piece (and we both agreed it had a lot of 'mud' in the mix), he gave it another listen and felt that it needed more improvement - specifically at around :37 it needed more interest so it would have a more complete development arc, and it didn't have 'edit points' that are required of sync music. I only had a couple of hours to work on it before it was due, so I created a new section at :37, created 5 edit points, cleaned out the mud using techniques Glenn taught me, side-chained the effects at the end to clean them up, removed built-in reverb that was in several of the instruments and used them 'dry' (made the mix a LOT cleaner), changed the name from "Bam Bam Bam" to "Game On!"... attached is the final mix that I submitted with edit points, and without edit points (without edit points is a little easier to listen to since it flows). Also as an FYI, below is an extract of the Taxi brief..."Please submit Sports Percussion Instrumentals with powerful rhythms that could pump up the energy for game-day highlights or on-screen sports action. Hard-hitting grooves, dynamic builds, and bold, evolving rhythmic motifs are essential, along with developmental arcs that keep the energy building as your piece progresses, as well as good edit points."
