Building Capacity or Building Capabillity?
In my life as a nonprofit specialist the phrase "building capacity" was thrown around constantly as a way to say, "We need money for infrastructure, to grease the wheels of our operations, to ensure we can commit to services for a year to 5 years."
When I look at it now, thanks to , I real-eyes maybe we are talking about our capability to perform or act in a certain manner. Not the filling up of the lungs with air to do the work, but the strengthening of body-mind, sinews and fascia, et cetera, to enABLE.
For example, Can I really heal this pain in my knee from all this bending? is a question of determination and knowing one's ability. (My message is the knowing is closed off and not present; this is the major barrier to self-healing.)
Recall when you were corrected by parents when you asked a "Can I..." question? They said, "Say, 'May I... is the correct way to ask that. Of course you are ABLE to, but do you have permission is the question." (my English teacher mother was hard on me! I heard others echo this as well.)
What we're doing as caregiver-leaders Giving.All.The.Time. is about acknowledging we are CAPABLE and have permission.
What do you think? (the GIFs cover a range of ways to look at it)
