Local distributors begging me for potential partnership
After the Ronin roundup last week and Travis’s thoughts about the potential value of my IP something funny happened.
I bumped into the owner of the distribution network where I buy all our solar products from at the airport on Friday.
They are the largest global distributor of the #1 solar brand on the planet, he runs the South African network.
We were about to get on the same flight, but our flight was delayed for an hour.
I was pretty bummed about the delay cause I am flying to the coast to pickup my 3 year old daughter at my parents. And I haven’t seen her for two weeks except on video calls!
Long story short, I bumped into this guy after the delay announcement, and my frustration quickly disappeared :)
We met twice before at two of their events and I briefly spoke at one (they wanted to know how we as installers experience their products and support etc)
So it was an easy intro at least…
He asked me about my business and I asked about his, I also asked about his future plans, goals and current challenges.
He said he has a ton of plates spinning with the biz and his marketing and sales team needs constant management and training etc and most of the team members aren’t performing as well as he would like and that they don’t have vision etc.. this went on for a bit..
We briefly discussed opportunities in the space etc and he mentioned that the banks want them to build a business that works directly with consumers, I told him I might be able to help with this.
From there we discussed a few more ideas and he basically told me they need help in a more than one area and that he wants me to join their team in some way plus that I can keep doing my thing etc.. he mentioned the term mentorship..
After the flight he stopped me as I walked into the airport and practically begged me to get back to him this week to talk about a potential partnership.
I’ll possibly see him this Friday and I need to make sure that (if we do get to an agreement) that we structure this deal in a way that keeps me from doing a ton of shit I don’t want to do.
I’m already doing too much shit running this biz.
Thanks Travis for your persistent useful reminders to think outside of the box. :)
