Intro + Repurposed eBook Deal Ride-Along (Ronin Feedback Welcomed!) 🐱‍👤
UPDATE 02/03/24
Small update.
❌ I didn't want to give the guy I'm working with an extra task of deep dive proofreading . Like Travis' says: you give someone a 5 min task, you delayed the deal a day. You give them a 30 min task, you likely will have killed the deal.
✅ So, I had to put on my thinking cap and came up with a solution. I asked him if we could do a small TEST with a few of his peeps. We promise them a finalized version of the Kindle book for FREE. But that the caveat was that they had to a) actually read it and b) give us unfiltered feedback and comment on our Google doc. The way I positioned this was so that we make it the best damn resource that we know a small sample of his existing audience will already love instead of firing blind.
He loved the idea! It was a win-win because he doesn't have to put in more work and I don't have to sweat if his audience is going to like it 🚀
UPDATE 01/25/24
Will make a few points on how this has gone down so far with some lessons learned...
❌ At first, I was only asking for a referral link within the book.
✅ He ended up easily agreeing to have my own opt-in link where I can manage the bonus book content resources
❌He wanted to structure the initial commission as a referral, which was 15%. I was struggling to figure out how I could sweat or not sweat the leads that actually booked (which I did find out you can pre-populate Calendly links with info. But that seemed like a lot of tech to integrate it).
✅Today, I posed the question to him that I would save him and his sales team time, money, and energy if I used a lander to direct sell to his programs. And that I figured he'd like someone just being able to jump right in the program versus having his team filled with more calendar items.
He agreed, and at a higher percentage! I didn't want to appear like I was taking advantage of his flexibility, so I said I didn't want a whole lot more and just asked for 20%.
I will likely split test this where I can down the road for his sales team vs the lander. I know I can also trigger email sequences and nurture to convert them too.
I plan to try to find one of his webinars where he pre-sells the program and transcribe it/modify it into a sales page. Potentially could even use the video itself as an above-the-fold VSL.
❌ I should have waited to do the Kindle book but I got so dang excited at my first deal I wrote quite a bit of it.
✅ But I did learn a lot of lessons on the limitations of ChatGPT. And how transcribing certain amount of character/token amounts and how to divide into chaptered content. Of course, there was still a lot of manual work to be done. But I like writing, if it isn't obvious 😛, so this wasn't too bad. I was going to use Humata but for some reason I just stuck to ChatGPT. I need to test it out to see if it has better capabilities as far as generating longer content but still a lot of AI has the same character/token limitations.
I'm also looking at Thrivecart. Big investment up front but it isn't monthly vs Kajabi. Wondering if anyone has experience with it for doing what we're doing here?

ORIGINAL POST 01/08/24
Hi there! Been lurking for a couple of months taking in all the content. New here, so thought I'd introduce myself and explain a deal I'm working to get perspective.
I'm Austin from Arkansas. I've been "sharpening the sword" for a bit now.
I tend to overcommunicate so forgive me for the long post 😅
Starting to step up my courage and crush some self-limiting beliefs to start approaching for deals.
I've been a freelancer, specializing in email and long form copy. Particularly in the ecom and SaaS space. My original professional background is IT/networking/scripting/software dev.
Definitely wanting to get away from the service provider mentality, which is why I'm here.
With that out of the way...
💲 Here's the deal:
I joined a DMing sales mastermind led by some people who I believe know their stuff. Since I have handed over money to them already, the relationship is there, and they were very interested from the git-go.
I offered to take their free content (which there's a lot) and turn it into a Kindle book. All I wanted was an affiliate link to their own monthly recurring program.
I know Travis has taught us we only get what we negotiate. In saying that, what are some other gotchas in how I should approach this?
Here is my sample agreement. Am I asking too much? Not enough? Am I limiting myself here?
✅ I agree:
  • to create a book based on company's free content
  • to place the book on the Amazon Kindle marketplace
  • Company will have final say on publication of the content of the book
  • The book will be done at the very latest by July 2024
✅ Company agrees:
  • to create and maintain an affiliate link for Austin
  • To pay XX% for each sale of the current program sale conversion from Austin's affiliate link
  • The book will contain Austin's affiliate link
  • When the book is used in promotional materials for company's program, Austin's affiliate link will remain
  • The link to the book will be shared at least once with your free audience via email and social media
  • To provide feedback for modifications of book before publishing
  • To allow a co-author credit
  • The book will be published under Austin's Amazon account
✅ We agree:
  • The book will be given the best effort from both sides to be valuable resource for both parties
  • To overview the outline and draft of the book before publishing
  • To agree on a price, if any, of the book before publishing
I know Travis has mentioned to not let repurposed content be under the company name. I am trying to figure out how to approach this part. As these guys definitely have their brand front and center.
Posting this to get my hands dirty and "show my work". Any feedback is encouraged.
I hope this is not too overwhelming and at least sparks some insights and ideas for my fellow Ronins.
I know I'm packing a lot into this post but another idea (I may be getting ahead of myself) is to put all of the free + paid content into a chatbot somehow and create it as an upsell for their offer and promote it as a 24/7 access coach.
Thanks guys!
✨ P.S. - I also am totally down for connecting with fellow Ronins, I may not respond right away but I am trying to get better at that as well!
