NO NOT THAT KIND- put down that scalpel!😳. Style transitioning. I got a feeling that the two coats I recently bought will be at the back of my closet in a few years. Most of my recent posts have been about the economic folly of chasing fashion. But if one is replacing garments it’s hard to buy new without going full Bespoke and try to stay middle of the road on lapel sizes, button placement (narrower lapels will naturally pull the operable button a bit higher) and trouser leg widths. So today I went to the back of my closet and dug out some 1990’s garments to illustrate. This sportcoat has a great pattern, but check out the 5” lapels. And the Khaki’s are 1990 Halolds with a 19” leg. (Oddly they are plain fronts with no cuffs-bought them in a super sale after Harold had sold the business right before the new owners bankrupted the firm when they steered away from Harold’s proven formulas).
Ironically I could wear this in a bigger city and would be quite fashion forward today. I’m curious if anyone but me will notice the difference.
