Summer sock hop
Back in the 20s and 30s when swing dance was popular, wealthy aristocrats would host swing dance dances, but due to the energetic nature of swind dance, their ball room floors would be quite scuffed up, so it became popular to host sock hops, or swing dances where people removed their shoes and danced in their socks to prevent the floor from scuffing.
One of the schools has swing dance lessons throughout the year, and over the summer hosts informal, sock hop dances. Last night was the first one over the summer
